To present an overview of LIBS achievements in plant bioimaging and discuss the state of the art of various elements’ bioimaging in plants using LIBS with a spatial resolution at micrometer scale.

LIBS represents a vital alternative to its analytical counterparts in terms of analysis of large-scale samples with a sufficient resolution. It is particularly beneficial to use LIBS for a fast screening in common phytotoxicity tests if it is desired to obtain the information about the site of bioaccumulation, translocation, uptake routes as well as about contaminants’ trophic transfer.

The spatial resolution of LIBS is still limited by its moderate spatial resolution, sensitivity, and spatially resolved quantification. However, progress has been made to overcome these limitations.
