研究目的
To propose a new deterministic approach for remote sensing retrieval, called modified total least squares (MTLS), for retrieving sea surface temperature from GOES-13 satellite measurements, and to compare its performance with other methods like optimal estimation and regression-based retrieval.
研究成果
The MTLS method demonstrates a relatively superior temporally consistent performance compared to other methods like optimal estimation and regression-based retrieval for SST retrievals from GOES-13 satellite measurements. It provides a means to analytically calculate the total retrieval error at individual pixel level and identify contaminated pixels due to residual clouds, error in the water vapor profile and aerosols.
研究不足
The study is limited to night-only retrievals due to approximations in RT physics for 3.9-μm daytime simulations. The accuracy of retrievals is also dependent on the quality of ancillary atmospheric data and the forward model used.
