研究目的
To non-invasively detect lung cancer (LC) and predict LC histology via the analysis of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted through breathing.
研究成果
The study demonstrated the potential of breath analysis using GC/QTOF/MS and an e-nose system with UV-irradiated WO3 sensors for non-invasive diagnosis of lung cancer and its histological types. Four new putative lung cancer biomarkers were identified, and the e-nose system showed high accuracy in discriminating between different types of lung cancer.
研究不足
The study was limited by the sample size and the need for further validation in larger cohorts. The specificity and sensitivity of the biomarkers identified need to be confirmed in diverse populations.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study employed GC/QTOF/MS for VOC detection and an electronic nose (e-nose) system with UV-irradiated WO3 sensors for breath analysis.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Breath samples were collected from 44 volunteers (32 LC patients and 12 healthy subjects) in pulmonology units of three hospitals in Morocco.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
GC/QTOF/MS (Agilent Technologies), BioVOCTM breath sampler, ORBOTM 402 Tenax? TA sorbent tubes, Tedlar? bags, WO3 nanowire sensors.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Breath samples were collected and analyzed using GC/QTOF/MS and the e-nose system. Sensors were irradiated with UV-light at 394 nm during measurements.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Discriminant Function Analysis (DFA) were used for data analysis.
