LiBa4Ga5Q12 compounds exhibit promising properties for IR NLO applications, including strong SHG responses, wide band gaps, and high laser damage thresholds. Theoretical calculations highlight the importance of [Ga5Q16]17? clusters in SHG effects and the beneficial role of alkali metals in achieving large band gaps.

The SHG intensities for both compounds did not increase with an increase in particle sizes, indicating non-phase-matching behavior. The study is limited to the Li?Ba?Ga?Q (Q = S, Se) system and may not be directly applicable to other chalcogenide systems.

High-temperature flux method in sealed quartz tubes was used for synthesis.

4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Synthesis involved heating mixtures to 1000°C for LiBa4Ga5S12 and 950°C for LiBa4Ga5Se12, followed by slow cooling. Characterization included structural determination, optical property measurements, and theoretical calculations.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Data were analyzed using Mercury software, Kubelka?Munk function for band gaps, and first-principles calculations for electronic structures and optical properties.
