研究目的
To demonstrate the stable pulse output of a diode-end-pumped Tm:YAP laser based on the longitudinal mode beating technique.
研究成果
The stable self-pulse output of a Tm:YAP laser at 1937 nm was achieved based on the longitudinal mode beating technique without additional modulation components in the cavity. The laser demonstrated high stability, a maximum average output power of 1.14 W, and a pulse width of 5.3 ns with a repetition frequency of 89 MHz. This represents the first 2 μm self-pulsing solid-state laser based on the longitudinal mode beating effect.
研究不足
The highest output power of the self-pulsing Tm:YAP laser is limited by the available pump power and not the thermal effects. The average output power could be further enhanced by using a pump source with a higher output power.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A diode-end-pumped Tm:YAP laser setup was designed to achieve stable pulse output based on the longitudinal mode beating effect without additional modulation elements.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
An a-cut Tm:YAP crystal with a dopant concentration of 3 at.% Tm and dimensions of 3 mm × 3 mm × 10 mm was used as the gain medium.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
The setup included a fiber-coupled laser diode, a Tm:YAP crystal, concave and flat mirrors, a digital oscilloscope, a fast InGaAs PIN photo-detector, a power meter, and a spectrum analyzer.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The laser cavity was aligned for maximum output power, and the pump power was increased to achieve stable self-pulsing output. The temporal characteristics, optical spectrum, and beam profile were measured.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The pulse trains were recorded and analyzed using a digital oscilloscope and a signal analyzer. The output power and slope efficiency were calculated from the power meter readings.
