To develop a rapid and accurate method for the detection of Pb(II) ion using a ratiometric fluorescence nanoprobe based on the inner filter effect mechanism of quantum dots.

The ratiometric nanoprobe developed for selective detection of Pb(II) ion in tea samples showed lower limit of detection, higher accuracy, and linearity than those of the single signal method. The 'inner rule' idea can be expected to detect other analytes by simply modifying gQD and rQD with other recognition units.

The mechanism of inner filter effect remains to be discussed, and how to obtain stable 'inner rule' in constructing dual-signal assay is still a challenge.

The study utilized a ratiometric fluorescence method consisting of two core-shell CdSe/ZnS QD probes to detect ultra-trace level of Pb(II) ion.
