研究目的
Investigating the photolysis of nitrite in alcohol-containing aqueous solutions to understand the formation and reactivity of photolytic intermediates such as NO, NO2, and N2O3.
研究成果
The photolysis of nitrite in aqueous solution generates NO and NO2, which quickly form N2O3 isomers. The presence of alcohols slightly decelerates the depletion rate of N2O3 due to less favorable thermodynamics. The upper-bound bimolecular rate coefficient of NO or NO2 with alcohols is estimated as 7.3 × 103 M?1 s?1. This study provides new insights into the reactivity of alcohols with nitrogen oxides in aqueous environments.
研究不足
The study is limited by the specific conditions of the experiments, such as the concentration of nitrite and alcohols, and the laser excitation wavelength. The theoretical calculations assume a continuum model for the solvent effect, which may not account for specific interactions.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection
The photolysis of nitrite at 355 nm in the presence of methanol and ethanol was initiated by a pulsed third-harmonic Nd:YAG laser and monitored with a step-scan Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources
Aqueous solutions of NaNO2 with varying ratios of CH3OH or C2H5OH were prepared. The steady-state ATR infrared and UV-Vis absorption spectra of the unphotolyzed reactants were recorded.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials
Third harmonic Nd:YAG laser (LS-2137U, LOTIS Tii), step-scan Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (Vertex 80, Bruker), mercury cadmium telluride (MCT) detector (KMPV8?0.5-J1/DC, Kolmar Technologies), USB4000-UV-VIS spectrometer (Ocean Optics).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow
The samples were loaded in a flow cell and excited with 355 nm pulsed laser. The transient infrared difference spectra were collected using the step-scan method.
5:Data Analysis Methods
The time-resolved difference infrared spectra were derived from the interferograms. The vibrational features and kinetics were analyzed with the aid of theoretical calculations.
