The study successfully synthesized and characterized a series of imidazole-based dyes for DSSC applications, with dye 4 showing the highest PCE of 7.16%. The introduction of a novel potential assisted dye staining process enhanced the dye loading on the photoanode by 18% in 1h, leading to an improved PCE of 8.10%. The findings suggest that imidazole-based dyes, especially those with phenanthrene donors and anisole ancillary donors, are promising for high-efficiency DSSCs.
