研究目的
Investigating the potential of nanoscale light sources for optical interconnects, focusing on low-power communication and defect engineering for integration with silicon.
研究成果
Nano light sources are a very attractive option for future optical interconnects for high bandwidth optical communication. The possibility of monolithic integration of these devices on Si or SOI without performance degradation will create a new paradigm for on-chip optical communication at short distances. Such integration can be scaled for high volume manufacturing, making it cost competitive.
研究不足
The main limitations include the relatively large footprint of photonic mode lasers, optical losses in plasmonic lasers, limited power output of nano-LEDs, and challenges in achieving efficient optical coupling and reliability in high power density environments.
