The proposed online photo-coupler CTR degradation detection method for digitally-controlled converters can evaluate CTR degradation with a resolution power of 1% and 10% for photo-coupler voltage and current detection circuits, respectively. The method demonstrates different output current dependencies for voltage and current CTR degradation, allowing for separate detection of both degradations. Future work includes prototyping a digitally-controlled SMPS with this failure prediction function to verify its effectiveness.

The method's accuracy is degraded in the lower current range (below 10 A), and the resolution power for current detection photo-coupler degradation is one order lower than for voltage detection. Additionally, the method requires pre-implemented Rloss(Iout) look-up table and Rload(Iout) for converter efficiency determination.
