To synthesize TiO2/ZnCr2O4 core-shell structure using TiO2 seed particles and heterogeneous precipitation, and to evaluate its photocatalytic and antibacterial activity.

The TiO2/ZnCr2O4 core-shell structure can exhibit a high efficiency of photocatalytic activity in photocatalytic applications. Also, the as-prepared nanocomposite showed a good inorganic antibacterial activity.

1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
Heterogeneous precipitation in chemical solution using TiO2 seed particles was designed as the synthesis method.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
TiO2-P25 nanoparticles were used as the seed particles.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Urea, zinc acetate dehydrate, chromium nitrate, TiO2-P25 nanoparticles, X-ray diffraction (XRD), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UV-vis spectrophotometer.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The solution was continuously stirred at 25 °C for 2 h, sonicated for 20 min and then refluxed in an oil bath at 90 °C for 24 h of magnetic stirring. The obtained precipitations were filtered and washed several times with distilled water. Finally, the precipitates were dried at 160 °C for 24 h and then calcined via heat treatment at 500 °C for 3 h.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The crystal structure was characterized by XRD, morphology by FE-SEM and TEM, UV-vis spectra were obtained on a Jasco V-670 spectrophotometer.
