To explore the influence of different aromatic dicarboxylate ligands on the final structures and properties of ternary Cd(II) MOFs and to investigate their application as dual-responsive luminescent sensors for toxic metal ions in water.

Two new luminescent Cd-MOFs based on L, H2atpa/H2tbta ligands were successfully synthesized and characterized. Both MOFs exhibit highly sensitive towards detection of Cu2+ and Cr2O7 2- with 1, Hg2+ and Cr2O7 2- with 2, making them promising candidates as dual-responsive luminescence sensors for sensitization metal ions.

1:Experimental Design and Method Selection
Hydrothermal synthesis was employed to synthesize two new Cd(II) MOFs using different aromatic dicarboxylate ligands. The structures were characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources
The samples were synthesized from Cd(OAc)2·2H2O, the ligand L, and either H2atpa or H2tbta under hydrothermal conditions.

Perkin-Elmer 240C Elemental Analyzer, Avatar 360 (Nicolet) spectrophotometer, Rigaku D/Max-2500PC diffractometer, Netzsch STA449 F1 thermogravimetric analyzer, Edinburgh FS5 fluorescence spectrophotometer, UV-Vis spectrophotometer (Puxi Instrument, T9).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow
The mixtures were placed in Teflon-lined high-pressure containers and heated at 140 °C for 72 h, then cooled to room temperature. The crystals obtained were characterized by various spectroscopic and diffraction techniques.
5:Data Analysis Methods
The luminescent properties were analyzed using fluorescence spectrophotometry. The quenching constants and detection limits were calculated using the Stern-Volmer equation.
