To investigate the thermal stability and hydrophobicity of different alkyl chains of silanes with silicon (Si) micro- and nanoparticles.

The research concluded that long alkyl chain-ITMS/Si coating shows higher hydrophobicity compared to short alkyl chain-ETMS/Si coating. Both ITMS/Si and ETMS/Si coatings can retain their superhydrophobicity although they are calcined at temperature range between 100°C and 250°C.

1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
Sol-gel methods were used to design superhydrophobic glass substrates through surface modification by using low-surface-energy Isooctyl trimethoxysilane (ITMS) and Ethyl trimethoxysilane (ETMS) solution. Hierarchical double-rough scale solid surface was built by Si micro- and nanoparticles to enhance the surface roughness.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Glass slides with dimensions of
3:5 x 5 cm were used as substrates. List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Si nanoparticles and microparticles, ITMS and ETMS, isopropyl alcohol, ethanol.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The prepared sol was applied onto glass substrate using dip-coating method and was dried at control temperature of 400°C inside the tube furnace.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The hydrophobicity of the films was measured through water contact angle measurement.
