To perform the polarimetric calibration using only PolSAR images by developing a new calibration algorithm that estimates the complete polarimetric distortions, including both the cross-talks and channel imbalances between various polarization channels, merely by utilizing the measured quad polarized SAR data and without a standard practice to deploy the special man-made outside calibration device.

The proposed polarimetric calibration method, which solely relies on the image itself with the property of rotation symmetry, is validated to be reliable and efficient. It achieves similar calibration precision to the Ainsworth algorithm but without using any known calibration point target. The method is an effective and efficient approach to perform polarimetric calibration of fully imaging radar systems.
