研究目的
Investigating the effectiveness of a joint radar emblem calibration approach to improve the radar sensor performance through the assessment of the joint performance of a set of industrialized radome-emblems.
研究成果
The joint calibration of radar sensor and the radome-emblem improves the determination of the Direction of Arrival (DoA) by reducing the errors. This new calibration approach reduces the systematic errors introduced by the radome, providing a better result than not considering the presence of the radome. It represents a simpler solution than calibrating for each individual emblem and allows the substitution of the radome-emblem without the requirement of calibrating the radar sensor again.
研究不足
The variability in different production units in a radome response is the only error that remains after calibration. A thorough study involving a larger number of production samples should be concluded to provide actual bounds for the errors.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study involves a joint calibration of the radar sensor and the radome to reduce the DoA error. The methodology includes measuring the angle error introduced by the radome using a measurement system equivalent to a conventional radar sensor.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Two sets of radomes are used: one with high dispersion (25 radome-emblems) and another with low dispersion (12 radome-emblems).
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
The measurement system includes a PNA Network Analyser (5222A), a Millimeter Head Controller (N5261A), two Millimeter Wave VNA Extenders, two wave-guide horn antennas, a lineal motor, a rotator motor, and a special support made of Expanded Polystyrene.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The radome-emblem is held by a support in front of the transmitting antenna. The position mimics the operational conditions of the radar sensor. An active target is used to increase sensitivity.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The angle error is obtained by computing the difference between a measurement with the radome-emblem and the mean value of a set of radome-emblems measurements.
