To obtain comprehensive and detailed information regarding the influence of the test voltage level on the pulse shape of corona discharges under positive and negative DC voltage stress.

The influence of the test voltage level on the pulse shape of corona discharges is significant, especially under positive voltage stress, where four different characteristic pulse shapes are identified. Under negative voltage stress, the influence is comparatively lower, but the test voltage level must still be considered in the analysis of the pulse shape. Further investigations are recommended to clarify how the change of the characteristic pulse shape affects the electromagnetic spectrum of partial discharges.

The study is limited to corona discharges in air under DC voltage stress. The influence of atmospheric parameters is not considered, and the test is conducted under ambient atmosphere.
