To design a pyramidal horn antenna with low E-plane sidelobes using transformation optics, employing both ordinary dielectric materials and isotropic graded refractive index materials, as well as graded photonic crystals for implementation.

The proposed optical conformal transformation effectively reduces the E-plane backlobe and sidelobe levels of a pyramidal horn antenna using homogeneous, isotropic, nonmagnetic materials. Simulation results show significant reduction in sidelobe and backlobe levels, with the design being easily realizable using ordinary dielectrics or graded photonic crystals.

The designed medium is dispersive, requiring approximation for non-dispersive performance. Implementation of magnetic materials with arbitrary permeability distribution is challenging.
