  • p-GaN/n-ZnO Nanoplate/CsPbBr3 Quantum Dots Heterojunction Light-Emitting Diode for Dual-Wavelength Emission

    摘要: In this paper, we report a p-GaN/n-ZnO nanoplate/CsPbBr3 quantum dots (QDs) heterojunction light-emitting diode (LED) for dual-wavelength emission. ZnO nanoplates were prepared by vapor phase transport on the GaN thin film to form the p-GaN/n-ZnO nanoplate heterojunction. Afterwards, green CsPbBr3 QDs (band gap of 2.25 eV) were deposited on ZnO nanoplates to realize green light emission. The structure and photoluminescence of the ZnO nanoplates and CsPbBr3 QDs were characterized. The as-prepared LED device with turn-on voltage of ~ 2.7 V displays a typical rectification behavior. The electroluminescence spectra with narrow emission peaks reveal the device presents commendable dual-wavelength electroluminescence performance at ~ 385 nm and ~ 512 nm and the electroluminescence intensity saturates at about 65 mA/cm2. Moreover, the detailed electroluminescence mechanism including emission originate of n-ZnO/p-GaN heterojunction was discussed based on the band diagram. Thus, our work indicates compelling potential for the practical application of perovskite LEDs.

  • A review of highly reliable flexible encapsulation technologies towards rollable and foldable OLEDs

    摘要: As the demand for flexible, rollable, and foldable displays grows, various state-of-the-art component technologies, including thin-film transistors (TFTs), electrodes, thin-film encapsulations (TFEs), and touch screen panels, have been developed based on organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with flexible organic layers. Developing highly reliable flexible OLEDs is essential to realize flexible displays, but the flexible encapsulation technology still has technical difficulties and issues to be addressed. This review covers the recent developments in encapsulation technologies, particularly their material and structural designs, for highly reliable, flexible OLEDs. The solution concepts for the existing technical hurdles in flexible encapsulations are addressed. Among the various advanced flexible encapsulation technologies developed so far, neutral-axis engineering with a thin metal layer and a crack arrester is introduced.

  • Random Voids Generation and Effect of Thermal Shock Load on Mechanical Reliability of Light-Emitting Diode Flip Chip Solder Joints

    摘要: To make the light-emitting diode (LED) more compact and effective, the flip chip solder joint is recommended in LED chip-scale packaging (CSP) with critical functions in mechanical support, heat dissipation, and electrical conductivity. However, the generation of voids always challenges the mechanical strength, thermal stability, and reliability of solder joints. This paper models the 3D random voids generation in the LED flip chip Sn96.5–Ag3.0–Cu0.5 (SAC305) solder joint, and investigates the effect of thermal shock load on its mechanical reliability with both simulations and experiments referring to the JEDEC thermal shock test standard (JESD22-A106B). The results reveal the following: (1) the void rate of the solder joint increases after thermal shock ageing, and its shear strength exponentially degrades; (2) the first principal stress of the solder joint is not obviously increased, however, if the through-hole voids emerged in the corner of solder joints, it will dramatically increase; (3) modelling of the fatigue failure of solder joint with randomly distributed voids utilizes the approximate model to estimate the lifetime, and the experimental results confirm that the absolute prediction error can be controlled around 2.84%.

  • Chemically doped hole transporting materials with low cross-linking temperature and high mobility for solution-processed green/red PHOLEDs

    摘要: Recently, developing insoluble cross-linkable functional layers plays a vital role for solution-processed organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). Here, two vinyl-based cross-linkable hole transporting materials V-TPAVTPD and V-TPAVCBP are designed and synthesized. Additionally, cationic photoinitiator 4-octyloxydiphenyliodonium hexafluoroantimonate (OPPI) is first introduced to chemically induce vinyl-based photo cross-linking process, aiming at lowering cross-linking temperature and enhancing hole mobility. As a result, cross-linking can occur at expressly low temperature of 120 °C with >95% solvent resistance. Moreover, hole mobility is markedly enhanced with the value higher than 10-3 cm2 V-1 s-1. When applying hole transporting layers (HTLs) to solution-processed green and red phosphorescent OLEDs, devices exhibit excellent properties. Particularly, the maximum current efficiency of 54.0 cd A?1 (green), 9.8 cd A?1 (red) and external quantum efficiency of 15.5% (green), 15.0% (red) are obtained when OPPI doped V-TPAVCBP serves as HTL. This low temperature feasible cross-linking process to prepare HTLs with preferable hole mobility promotes the development of OLEDs.

  • Electrical Conduction and Luminescence for Inverted-Type Organic Light-Emitting Diodes with Polyethyleneimine

    摘要: Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have showed the unique potentials of display by bendable, foldable and storable panels. In general, since OLEDs consisted of multi organic layers, their electrical conduction would be complicated. Aluminum quinoline (Alq3) was a classical and famous fluorescent material. We studied the conduction properties of inverted Alq3-bilayer OLEDs. Since the barrier height of electron injection from ITO cathode to Alq3 was higher than that from LiF/Al, electrons were little injected into Alq3 and the current density in the absence of EL was controlled by holes. In the specimen using polyethyleneimine as an injection layer, the current density and hole injection were influenced by electron injection for the current continuity. Despite that holes could arrive at the counter cathode through Alq3, the recombination zone was located near a hole transport layer as the conventional bilayer OLED. It was suggested that the carrier transport in an organic layer depends on both carrier injections.

  • What Color Does the Consumer See? Perceived Color Differences in Plastic Products in an LED-Lit Environment

    摘要: To attract customers and increase market opportunities, retailers frequently use lighting to highlight the color of their products. However, di?erences between perceived and actual color, triggered by display lighting, can motivate buyers to discard products after purchase. Few studies have been reported on di?erences in perceived color, caused by LEDs. This study focuses on two correlated color temperatures (2800 K, 4000 K) and illuminance levels (500 lx, 1500 lx) to create four LED-lit environments, and measures the di?erences in the color perceived by 20 observers on acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene (ABS) plastics, with di?erent surfaces, under these four environments. The results reveal that correlated color temperature results in larger perceived di?erences in color than illuminance, and the e?ects of LED light sources on green and yellow ABS plastic products are more obvious than their e?ects on red and blue products. One possible reason for this can be attributed to the visual sensitivity e?ect of human eyes. The results of this study can serve as a reference for designers fabricating ABS plastic products for practical lighting applications, and improving the role of LED lighting in sustainable development.

  • Solution-processed QD-LEDs in visible range: Modulation bandwidth enhancement

    摘要: Light-emitting diodes based on quantum dots (QD-LEDs) have attracted much attention not only due to their usage in lighting and display applications but also as the light sources in visible light communication (VLC). One of the most important parameters of a QD-LED as a light source is the improvement of modulation bandwidth in order to increase the data transfer rate. Here, three sets of QD-LEDs are presented for which some parameters such as frequency response are investigated, once for the devices with similar structure but different homogeneities and then for those with minor changes in the structure. It was found that by changing the homogeneity of QDs in the same structure based on CdSe/ZnS and using the ZnO shell instead of ZnS, the modulation bandwidth varied between 2 and 8 MHz. Furthermore, for the structure based on CdSe/ZnS, the modulation bandwidth of 8 MHz is achieved which is fairly a wide bandwidth for a QD-LED. The idea of manipulation in the structure of nanomaterials can be an important step toward increasing the modulation bandwidth. According to calculated results, the carrier density in different layers is calculated and then the recombination current-voltage characteristics are compared with the experimental results, indicating high conformity.

  • Miniature power and data transceiver based on multimodal operation of a single photovoltaic device

    摘要: Wireless bi-directional data telemetry and power delivery are demonstrated using a single photovoltaic (PV) cell. The same cell functions as a light-emitting diode (LED), a power transducer, and a reverse-biased photodiode. This is achieved through the use of a simple inductor-capacitor resonator, with the cell’s junction providing the circuit’s capacitive element. We show that pulsed illumination at the circuit’s resonance frequency results in active switching of the PV cell between the three operating modes. Using this approach we demonstrate backward data transmission in the form of optical pulses generated by the PV cell, as well as enhanced forward data transmission and power generation. This work demonstrates the principle of using a single PV cell as an optical data transceiver while simultaneously generating energy using only two circuit elements; an inductor and a PV cell. This approach bene?ts miniature wireless devices, such as medical implants, which operate within signi?cant size, weight, and energy constraints.

    摘要: Light-emitting diode (LED) lamps have been widely introduced in the healthcare field. On the other hand, electromagnetic interference with wireless medical telemetry systems by switched-mode power supplies built in LED lamps has been a serious problem. We have investigated electromagnetic noise radiated from bulb-type LED lamps and its effect on wireless medical telemetry systems. In this study, we focus on tube-type LED lamps and investigated the statistical characteristics of electromagnetic noise radiated from them. Additionally, the critical reception of wireless medical telemetry systems subjected to interference by tube-type LED lamp installation was investigated.
