  • Operando observation of chemical transformations of iridium oxide during photoelectrochemical water oxidation

    摘要: Iridium oxide is one of the few catalysts capable of catalyzing the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in both acidic and basic conditions. Understanding the mechanism of IrOx under realistic photoelectrochemical conditions is important for the development of integrated water splitting systems. Herein, we have developed a highly efficient OER photoanode in pH 1 aqueous solutions based on a sputtered IrOx film and a p+n-Si light absorber, interfaced with sputtered Au layer. Operando high energy resolution fluorescence detection X-ray absorption spectroscopy (HERFD XAS) was employed to monitor the oxidation state changes of IrOx during both electrochemical and photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation reactions in pH 1 aqueous solutions. We observed a gradual increase of the average oxidation state of Ir with increasing anodic potential in the pre-catalytic region, followed by a reduction of Ir under O2 evolution conditions. Consistent results were obtained on dark anodes and illuminated photoanodes. However, when the thickness of IrO2 was increased to 2 and 3 nm, the spectral changes became much less pronounced and the reduction of Ir oxidation state after the OER onset was not observed. This is due to the lower surface to bulk ratio, where lattice oxygen sites in the bulk are not accessible for the formation of hydroxide. More generally, the operando method developed here can be extended to other materials, thereby providing a powerful tool for mechanism discovery and an enabling capability for catalyst design.

  • Sol-Gel Template Synthesis and Characterization of Lu2O3:Eu3+ Nanowire Arrays

    摘要: Uniform Lu2O3:Eu3+ nanowire arrays were successfully prepared by the sol-gel process using anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates. The as-synthesized nanowires are homogeneous, highly ordered, and dense and have a uniform diameter of ~300 nm defined by the AAO templates. The X-ray diffraction and selected area electron diffraction results show that the Lu2O3:Eu3+ nanowires have a polycrystalline cubic structure, and the crystallite size of the Lu2O3:Eu3+ nanowires is confined by the AAO template. The nanowires within the AAO template showed good photoluminescence and X-ray-excited optical luminescence performances for Lu2O3:Eu3+. The emission peaks were attributed to the 5D0 → 7FJ transitions of Eu3+ (J = 0, 1, 2, 3).

  • Growth and Optical Characterization of Europium and Cerium Doped KCl Single Crystals by Czochralski Method for Dosimetric Applications

    摘要: Rare-earth-doped alkali halide single crystals KCl:Eu, KCl:Ce, and KCl:Eu,Ce were grown from melt using the Czochralski technique, and optical characterization was carried out with the prime focus on dosimetric applications. The grown crystals were investigated using XRD analysis, PL analysis, TSL measurements, and OSL measurements. The XRD of the crystals matched well with ICDD patterns (00-041-1476), and diffraction peaks can be assigned to the KCl structure, indicating that all the crystals have the same structure as KCl. The enhanced intensity of TSL and OSL was observed for co-doping of (Eu, Ce) in KCl crystals as compared to single doping. The appearance of a single glow peak in KCl:Eu,Ce at 230°C compared to single-doped KCl:Ce crystals suggested the use of the material in TL dosimetry. The intensity of OSL also showed a two-fold increase compared to single-doped crystals, suggesting its use in OSL dosimetry. PL studies showed a very high enhancement of intensity in Eu2+ emissions, reaching a maximum of about 421 nm in the (Eu2+, Ce3+) co-doped crystal compared to single-doped crystals. This justifies the occurrence of energy transfer from Ce3+ to Eu2+ in the KCl host lattice. These results showed that KCl:Eu,Ce acts as a potential TL and OSL dosimeter due to its high sensitivity to ionizing radiation.

  • Fabrication and enhanced photocatalytic property of TiO2-ZnO composite photocatalysts

    摘要: TiO2 nanotube and TiO2-ZnO composite photocatalysts were fabricated by simple hydrothermal method, and the photocatalytic property of as-prepared samples were analyzed by the photo degradation of rhodamine B water solutions under visible light irradiation. The prepared TiO2-ZnO composite photocatalysts exhibited excellent property in photo degradation of rhodamine B water solution, which is better than that of P25. The enhancement photocatalytic property of target photocatalysts could be attributed to the reduced band gap energy, the enhanced-surface physic-chemical properties, the separation of photo induced electron-hole pairs and the decreased recombination rate. In addition, TiO2-ZnO composite photocatalysts showed good stability for rhodamine B photo degradation under visible light.

  • Spectroscopic behavior, FMO, NLO and NBO analysis of two novel aryl boronic acid derivatives: Experimental and theoretical insights

    摘要: Here we report, experimental and theoretical determination of ground and excited state dipole moments of aryl boronic acid derivatives, 2-Bromophenyl boronic acid (2BPBA) and 2-Isopropylphenyl boronic acid (2IPBA). In both the compounds, Bathochromicshift is observed with increasing solvent polarity indicating π →π* transition due to intermolecular charge transfer interactions. For both the compounds, the ground and excited sate dipole moments are parallel to each other. The excited state dipole moment (μe) is greater than ground state dipole moment (μg) for the compound 2IPBA where as for 2BPBA, excited state dipole moment (μe) is less than ground state dipole moment (μg). Further, experimentally obtained Δμ are compared with those using microscopic empirical solvent polarity (??????). In parallel, the use of Kamlet-Taft parameters to the solvent effect on spectral properties of 2BPBA and 2IPBA are also discussed. The molecular structure, Frontier Molecular Orbitals (FMO), Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) analysis, Non-Linear Optical (NLO) properties of 2BPBA and 2IPBA have been investigated using the (DFT) calculations with B3LYP/6?311++G (d, p) basis set. The chemical reactivity and kinetic stability of the compounds is shown by differences between the energy levels by analyses of Frontier molecular orbitals. The polarizability and hyperpolarizability computations determine the NLO properties, whereas Natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis showed proton transfer within the selected donor-acceptor depicting large energy of stabilization for the compounds under study.

    摘要: Graphene oxide (GO) is known to have some unique properties for various applications. GO is the oxidation form of graphene. It is synthesized from graphite through chemical oxidation. In this research, GO was prepared by using an Improved Hummers’ method from natural graphite powder. In addition, the effects of different reaction time of 12 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours on the GO were studied. Results indicated that different sample sizes of GO possessed different morphologies, attachment of functional groups and absorption peaks in Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy. GO was characterized by using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, UV-Vis and X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). SEM result showed that the GO were appeared in a platelet-like form as compared with the GO (24 hours) where wrinkled and layered-flakes were seen and crumpled structures were seen on GO (72 hours) surface respectively. In FTIR results, the presence of oxygen-containing functional groups was confirmed in GO (72 hours) as compared with GO (12 hours) where the amount of oxygen-containing functional groups was less. In UV-Vis results, the absorption peak of GO (72 hours) was increased due to the longer oxidation time. By comparing these results, the oxidation of graphite to form GO can be determined accurately. Therefore, this study is a great benefit to provide information for researchers to synthesize high quality of GO for various applications.

  • Preparation and photocatalytic performance of Cu-doped CeO <sub/>2</sub> by citrate combustion method

    摘要: Cu-doped cerium oxides were successfully prepared by nitrate combustion method. The crysatlline phase evolution, micro morphology and photocatalytic performance of the products are systematically studied by XRD, SEM/EDX and degradation rate of methylene blue. The results show that at relative low temperature (<600°C), 20 mol% copper can be dissolved into CeO2 fluorite type cubic structure, however, at high temperature of 700°C, CuO phase desolution from CeO2 solid solution is detected by XRD, and confirmed by DTA for 5% Cu-doped sample. The as prepared photocatalysts show agglomeration of ultra fine particles with porous structure. Degradation results of methylene blue indicate that better photocatalytic performance is obtained for 5% Cu-doped CeO2 under the stimulated visible light than UV light irradiation (both 254 nm and 365 nm), even the power of former is half of the later. The loss of photocatalytic activity for higher doping samples (>5% Cu) is believed to be the serious agglomeration of the particles and desolution of CuO from CeO2 solid solution.

  • Carboxylic acid-functionalized TiO <sub/>2</sub> nanoparticle-loaded PMMA/PEEK copolymer matrix as a dental resin for 3D complete denture manufacturing by stereolitographic technique

    摘要: The main goal of the present investigation was to the synthesis of bioactive TiO2 nanoparticle-incorporated poly(methylmethacrylate)/polyetheretherketone nanocomposite for enhanced antibacterial and biocompatibility characteristics with suitable properties for manufacturing 3D printed stereolitographic dental prosthesis. The carboxylic acid-functionalized TiO2 nanoparticles have been dispersed into the copolymer matrixes through emulsion polymerization method, and the structural and morphological properties were investigated by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analytical techniques. The FTIR spectrum of synthesized nanocomposites that shows high intense peaks at 2,970–2,850 cm?1 is related to the symmetric and asymmetric stretching C-H vibration of methyl and methylene groups of the polymer matrix. The microscopic results of nanocomposite exhibited that functionalized nanoparticles were effectively and uniformly dispersed into the polymer matrix in the absence of particle agglomerations, and it has been given excellent killing efficiency of 99% under dark conditions against bacterial pathogens Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus and also exhibited favorable cell compatibility with dental pulp cells. This facile synthesized nanocomposite was efficaciously employed for denture manufacturing with stereolitographic technique.

  • Space-variant generalised Gaussian regularisation for image restoration

    摘要: We propose a new space-variant regularisation term for variational image restoration based on the assumption that the gradient magnitudes of the target image distribute locally according to a half-Generalised Gaussian distribution. This leads to a highly ?exible regulariser characterised by two per-pixel free parameters, which are automatically estimated from the observed image. The proposed regulariser is coupled with either the L2 or the L1 ?delity terms, in order to e?ectively deal with additive white Gaussian noise or impulsive noises such as, e.g. additive white Laplace and salt and pepper noise. The restored image is e?ciently computed by means of an iterative numerical algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multipliers. Numerical examples indicate that the proposed regulariser holds the potential for achieving high-quality restorations for a wide range of target images characterised by di?erent gradient distributions and for the di?erent types of noise considered.

    摘要: Using the hierarchical cascading method for modeling semiconductor devices makes it possible to achieve high accuracy by considering the influence of the details of the structure of the device. In this paper, we consider the simulation of a quantum cascade laser (QCL) with a periodic structure. The simulation is performed using the finite element method (FEM) in the COMSOL Multiphysics software. The results show that the proposed method allows to obtain the characteristics of the device with high accuracy.
