  • Facile Sol-gel Synthesis of Metaloxide Nanoparticles in a Cellulose Paper Template

    摘要: Ensembles of free standing particles of titanium, zinc, copper and iron oxides of 6-109 nm in size were sol-gel synthesized with a use of a cellulose paper as a template. The calcination time as short as 60 min at 550°C in air was found to be sufficient for the formation of crystalline single phase TiO2 or ZnO nanoparticles, Cu2O+CuO or Fe2O3+Fe3O4 nanocomposites and to burn out the organic components. The impurities initially present in the cellulose (Сa, Na, Cl) were detected in the synthesized compounds.

  • Structural, Morphological, Optical and Photoluminescence Properties of Hafnium Oxide Nanoparticles Synthesized by Sol-Gel Method

    摘要: The novel HfO2 nanoparticles have been synthesized using sol-gel method. The samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscopy with elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectrometer, UV-visible spectroscopy. The XRD patterns revealed the transition of cubic to monoclinic phase and calculated particle sizes are 34.92 and 35.66 nm in cubic phase and increase in molar concentration increased the size to 60.31 and 60.33 nm. The optical band gap energy decrease with increasing molar concentrations. We expect that this sol-gel method may be extended to the preparation of nanostructures of other kinds of metal oxides.

  • Co2+ Substituted ZnCuFe2O4 (0.0?≤?x?≤?0.5) Ferrites: Synthesis, Magneto-structural and Optical Properties for Their Photocatalytic Performance

    摘要: The cobalt (Co2+) has been successively substituted in ZnCuFe2O4 to obtain Zn0.5?xCoxCu0.5Fe2O4 (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 0.5) ferrites by auto-combustion technique. Prior to photocatalytic degradation, all as-synthesized ferrites were characterized to study their structure, composition, morphology, magnetic and optical behavior. The shifting of tetrahedral as well as octahedral stretching peaks towards higher frequencies observed in the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy indicates that Co2+ ion is substituted in ZnCuFe2O4. X-ray diffraction pattern confirms the formation of single-phase cubic spinel with decrease in average lattice constant from 8.3915 to 8.3224 ? with increase in Co2+ substitution. The photocatalytic performance of obtained ferrite catalyst was determined using methylene blue (MB) as model dye under visible light and direct sunlight. The degradation of MB with as-obtained photocatalyst under sunlight improves (91%) which proves the effective utilization of visible light active magnetic photocatalyst.

  • Copper doped nickel aluminate: Synthesis, characterisation, optical and colour properties

    摘要: Novel environment friendly inorganic nano green pigments, Ni1-xCuxAl2O4 (x = 0, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, 0.1) were successfully synthesized by simple, cost effective sol-gel method using citric acid as a gelling agent. Synthesized nano pigments were characterised by powder XRD, FT-IR, UV-DRS, SEM-EDX and TEM. Distribution of elements such as Ni, Cu, Al and O for the pigment Ni0.98Cu0.02Al2O4 was authenticated by elemental mapping analysis. The color parameters were studied using CIE-LAB parameters. It is evident from the DRS measurement that the band gap energy of NiAl2O4 (3.11eV) has been massively diminished to 2.63 eV when x = 0.02, unexpectedly changed the color of the pigment from cyan to green. While x = 0.1 the pigment color has turned into grey and the corresponding band gap condensed into 2.17 eV. Effect of mineralisers like NaF, CaF2, NH4H2PO4 and Li2CO3 on the color of Ni0.98Cu0.02Al2O4 was investigated.

  • Glass fiber supported BiOI thin-film fixed-bed photocatalytic reactor for water decontamination under solar light irradiation

    摘要: BiOI powder has been proved to be an efficient photocatalyst, but the difficulty in removing it from water after reaction limits its application in real water treatment. To solve this problem, a thin-film fixed-bed reactor (TFFBR) was set-up by developing a BiOI thin film on glass fiber cloth (GFC). The composition and structure of the as-prepared films were characterized with X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field emission microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The BiOI thin film was made by painting a silica sol containing BiOI on GFC, which could be tailored to desired sizes to accommodate the TFFBR. The mass of BiOI on the GFC increased with the number of iterations of the painting process. SiO2 sol glued the BiOI particles tightly onto the GFC, making the thin film strong enough to resist fluid flushing in the TFFBR. The photocatalytic activity of the BiOI thin film was investigated by degrading bisphenol A (BPA) under simulated sunlight. Ninety eight percent of BPA (20 mg/L in 2 L) was degraded by the BiOI thin film sample of seven layers (GFC-7) on the TFFBR within 8 hr irradiation. The GFC-7 displayed good photocatalytic ability toward artificial sewage containing BPA in a wide pH range (5–9), and also demonstrated excellent durability and reusability. The working conditions were optimized and it was found that the thickness of the fluid film and residence time over the thin film were key factors affecting the photocatalytic efficiency.

  • Piezoelectric properties of a near strain-free lead zirconate titanate thin films deposited on a Si substrate

    摘要: Chemical solution deposition (CSD)-derived near strain-free lead zirconate titanate (PZT) thin films on a Si substrate were prepared by designing a buffer layer structure. Strain-free PZT thin films with different compositions ranging from Zr/Ti = 50/50 to 58/42 were obtained to demonstrate lattice strain effects on piezoelectric properties. Results show that a near strain-free condition was attained with a SrRuO3 (SRO: 160 nm)/(La0.5,Sr0.5)CoO3 (LSCO: 90 nm)/LaNiO3 (LNO: 120 nm)/stacking structure, even on a Si substrate. The highest effective d33 value of the near strain-free PZT thin film was observed at 53/47 composition, which is the same as bulk materials, although the highest effective d33 value was obtained from 58/42 composition under the compressive lattice strain condition.

  • On the anomaly in the electrical characteristics of thin film transistors with multi-layered sol-gel processed ZnO

    摘要: A set of bottom-gate Zinc Oxide (ZnO) thin film transistors (TFTs) with active layers containing 1, 4 and 8 layers of spin-coated ZnO were fabricated and their electrical characteristics such as transistor transfer and capacitance-voltage characteristics were analyzed. The transconductance of the single-layered ZnO transistor shows a single peak. On the other hand, multiple peaks and humps were observed in the transconductance and capacitance-voltage characteristics of multi-layered ZnO transistors. The multi-layers were grown by reiteration of the spin-coating process, producing ZnO-ZnO interlayer-interfaces. The surface of the ZnO layer in contact with the ambient contains active sites, resulting in chemisorption of ambient gases such as oxygen prior to the deposition of subsequent layers. The chemisorbed species become negatively-charged and form charge sheets, depleting the surface/interface region. It was proposed that the formation of depletion layers at ZnO-ZnO interlayer-interfaces is the main cause for the observed anomaly.

  • Encapsulation of zinc phthalocyanine into bovine serum albumin aggregates

    摘要: Artificial hybridization of molecules with proteins is beneficial for biomedical applications. Herein, we describe a novel method for encapsulation of zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc) aggregates into bovine serum albumin (BSA) aggregates, but not monomeric BSA. This property is potentially useful for not only photodynamic or photothermal therapy but also development of a novel delivery system for hydrophobic drug molecules.

  • A comparison of the morphological and electrical properties of sol-gel dip coating and atomic layer deposition of ZnO on 3D nanospring mats

    摘要: We report on the morphological and electrical properties, with (light) and without (dark) UV illumination, of conformal coatings of ZnO on silica nanosprings deposited by sol-gel and atomic layer deposition (ALD) for the first time. Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM) imaging showed that both methods produce conformal coatings of ZnO on the nanosprings. The surface of the sol-gel coatings exhibited cracks at higher numbers of dipping/sintering cycles, while the morphology of ALD ZnO films were always smooth and devoid of cracks. The effective photoconductivity of the sol-gel ZnO coated nanospring mats increased nonlinearly with increasing coating thickness. The corresponding dark effective conductivity of the sol-gel ZnO coated nanospring mats also increased within the same thickness range. Alternatively, the effective photoconductivity of the ALD ZnO coated nanospring mats increased linearly with increasing coating thickness. The corresponding dark effective conductivity also increased within the same thickness range. The superior effective conductivity and photoconductivity of the ALD ZnO coated nanospring mats is attributed to the uniformity of the coating and the absence of cracks, which are observed for the thicker sol-gel ZnO coatings.

  • Investigation of optical and electrical properties of lithium doped ZnO nano films

    摘要: Investigation of undoped and lithium doped ZnO nano films deposited on glass substrates by sol-gel spin coating method have been carried out. The structural and morphological properties of the films with optimum post annealing temperature of 350°C have been investigated using X-ray Diffractometer (XRD) and Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) respectively. The XRD spectrum reveals that all the synthesised samples have single crystal structure having strong intense peak oriented along (002) c-axis. Crystalline size of undoped and Li doped ZnO nano films were deduced to be 34.66 nm and 32.59 nm respectively. FESEM exhibits uniform chromosome type structure. Nano films show transmittance above 90 % in the range of wavelength 350 nm to 800 nm. I-V characteristic shows linear and ohmic behaviour.
