  • Integrating Stereo Images and Laser Altimeter Data of the ZY3-02 Satellite for Improved Earth Topographic Modeling

    摘要: The positioning accuracy is critical for satellite-based topographic modeling in cases of exterior orientation parameters with high uncertainty and scarce ground control data. The integration of multi-sensor data can help to ensure precision topographical modeling in such situations. Presently, research on the combined processing of optical camera images and laser altimeter data has focused on planetary observations, especially on the Moon and Mars. This study presents an endeavor to establish a combined adjustment model with one constraint in image space for integration of ZY3-02 stereo images and laser altimeter data for improved Earth topographic modeling. The geometric models for stereo images and laser altimeter data were built first, and then, the laser ranging information was introduced to construct a combined adjustment model on the basis of the block adjustment model. One constraint that minimized the back-projection discrepancies in image space was incorporated into the combined adjustment. Datasets in several areas were collected as experimental data for the validation work. Experimental results demonstrated that the inconsistencies between stereo images and laser altimeter data for the ZY3-02 satellite can be reduced, and the elevation accuracy of stereo images can be significantly improved after applying the proposed combined adjustment. Experiments further proved that the improved height accuracy is insensitive to the number and relative position of laser altimeter points (LAPs) in stereo images. Moreover, additional plane control points (PCPs) were incorporated to achieve better planimetric accuracy. Experimental results in the Dengfeng area showed that the adjustment results derived by using LAPs and additional four PCPs were only slightly lower than those for the block adjustment with four ground control points (GCPs). Generally, the proposed approach can effectively improve the quality of Earth topographic model.

  • Sliding Mode Controller with Integral Action for DC-Link Voltage Control of Grid-Integrated Domestic Photovoltaic Systems

    摘要: The grid integration of photovoltaic systems is preferred over the islanded mode of operation as the former does not require additional storage element, hence less maintenance and no chemical pollution. To regulate power exchange between the grid and the photovoltaic system, a robust DC-link voltage controller capable of withstanding the intermittent nature of solar energy and sudden variations in load is inevitable. A proportional–integral controller is used for DC-link voltage control, exhibiting oscillations during steady state and overshoot during transients. However, the conventional sliding mode controller reduces the overshoot at the expense of increased steady-state error. This paper proposes a robust sliding mode controller for DC-link voltage control to reduce steady-state error by incorporating integral action to the conventional sliding mode controller. The harmful effect of chattering phenomenon is minimised by limiting the error in the control variable using a signum function. The added features of the work include an incremental conductance method for obtaining maximum power from the photovoltaic system, instantaneous pq theory-based self-tuning ?lter for the extraction of fundamental component and inverter switching pulse generation using hysteresis current control technique. The grid-integrated photovoltaic system along with all features is modelled and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink platform. The results of numerical simulations carried out for various system conditions illustrate that the proposed controller provides superior performance when compared to proportional integral controller and conventional sliding mode controller in terms of harmonic compensation, power ?ow balance and speed of response at all system conditions.

  • An Efficient Ultra-Flexible Photo-Charging System Integrating Organic Photovoltaics and Supercapacitors

    摘要: Flexible and biocompatible integrated photo-charging devices consisting of photovoltaic cells and energy storage units can provide an independent power supply for next-generation wearable electronics or biomedical devices. However, current flexible integrated devices exhibit low total energy conversion and storage efficiency and large device thickness, hindering their applicability towards efficient and stable self-powered systems. Here, a highly efficient and ultra-thin photo-charging device with a total efficiency approaching 6% and a thickness below 50 μm is reported, prepared by integrating 3-μm-thick organic photovoltaics on 40 μm-thick carbon nanotube/polymer-based supercapacitors. This flexible photo-charging capacitor delivers much higher performance compared with previous reports by tuning the electrochemical properties of the composite electrodes, which reduce the device thickness to 1/8 while improving the total efficiency by 15%. The devices also exhibit a superior operational stability (over 96% efficiency retention after 100 charge/discharge cycles for one week) and mechanical robustness (94.66% efficiency retention after 5000 times bending at a radius of around 2 mm), providing a high-power and long-term operational energy source for flexible and wearable electronics.

  • Photonic integrated multiwavelength laser arrays: Recent progress and perspectives

    摘要: With the significant technology advancement in photonic integration and the demands of compact light sources of multiple wavelengths, multiwavelength laser arrays (MWLAs) can play important roles in high-capacity optical signal transmission, photonic switching, and optical sensing. Manufacturing with semiconductor foundries and the integration with electronic integrated circuits bring not only advanced technologies but also new concepts for realizing MWLAs. This paper will first overview the existing technology development and then discuss the challenges and possible solutions for enabling photonic-integrated MWLAs. The overview will cover monolithically and hybrid-integrated MWLAs. The wavelength registration for both in-plane and vertical-cavity MWLAs will be discussed and compared.

  • Nanoscale Light Sources for Optical Interconnects

    摘要: This editorial is aimed at addressing two key aspects of nanoscale light sources: (1) low-power optical communication and (2) crystallographic defect engineering for monolithic integration with silicon. We will further discuss opportunities and challenges for nanoscale light sources for next generation, high density optical interconnect. Designing and prototyping light sources with sub light wavelength dimensions has been the topic of keen interest because of their versatility in optical communication. For example, nano light sources can operate at hundreds of GHz [1,2] which is not possible with conventional light sources [3]. In addition, power consumption in interconnects with these light sources can be reduced by omitting the modulator and using direct source modulation to encode optical data [4]. There are a number of nano light sources under investigation: (i) small photonic mode laser [5-9], (ii) plasmonic lasers [10,11] (iii) photonic-plasmonic hybrid lasers [12-15] and (iv) nanoscale LEDs [16,17]. Pros and cons of these nano light sources are discussed below.

  • Solar Power Plant Grid Interactive and Building Integration Photovoltaic

In terms of Indonesia's topology, the Solar Power Plant is most suitable for use in rural (remote) areas, known as the Solar Home System (SHS). This system is preferred because it is small in scale and uses a direct current (DC) system. This system can reduce costs because it does not use an inverter. But the weakness of this system is the difficulty of finding home electronic equipment such as TV, Radio / Tape and others that use DC, so the SHS system is not attractive to use. PLTS connected to PLN's electricity network, Interactive Grid, BIPV (Building Integration PV) is a hybrid application between the electricity network (PLN) and PLTS that are already widely used. Thus, PV-Genset Hybrids can reduce the inefficiency of operations and maintenance and reduce large initial investment costs

  • 92.5% Average Power Efficiency Fully Integrated Floating Buck Quasi-Resonant LED Drivers Using GaN FETs

    摘要: LEDs are highly energy ef?cient and have substantially longer lifetimes compared to other existing lighting technologies. In order to facilitate the new generation of LED devices, approaches to improve power ef?ciency with increased integration level for lighting device should be analysed. This paper proposes a fully on-chip integrated LED driver design implemented using heterogeneous integration of gallium nitride (GaN) devices atop BCD circuits. The performance of the proposed design is then compared with the conventional fully on-board integration of power devices with the LED driver integrated circuit (IC). The experimental results con?rm that the fully on-chip integrated LED driver achieves a consistently higher power ef?ciency value compared with the fully on-board design within the input voltage range of 4.5–5.5 V. The maximal percentage improvement in the ef?ciency of the on-chip solution compared with the on-board solution is 18%.

  • Nanopackaging for Component Assembly and Embedded Power in Flexible Electronics: Heterogeneous Component Integration for Flexible Systems

    摘要: The trends to high-density, ultrathin, and low-cost electronic systems are currently changing the face of the mobile, security, health-care, and automotive industries. Providing a flexible platform extends the applicability of these next-generation circuits to smart displays, conformal sensors, internet of Things (IoT) tags, remote health-monitoring systems, radar and millimeter (mm)-wave electronics, among others. As a result, the total market for flexible, organic, and printed electronics is projected to grow from close to US$30 billion in 2017 to approximately US$75 billion in 2027. Major applications that drive the field of flexible and printed electronics are illustrated in Figure 1.

  • Characterization of a Low-Cost, Monolithically Integrated, Tunable 10G Transmitter for Wavelength Agile PONs

    摘要: Dynamically reconfigurable passive optical networks (PONs) using time-division multiplexing and dense wavelength division multiplexing will require low-cost, high-performance customer premises equipment to be economically viable. In particular, substantial cost savings can be achieved through the use of efficient re-growth free, foundry-compatible fabrication techniques. Using this strategy, this paper presents the first detailed characterization of a monolithically integrated transmitter comprised of a discretely tunable slotted Fabry–Pérot ridge waveguide laser, an absorptive modulator and a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) produced using a standard off-the-shelf AlInGaAs/InP multiple quantum well epitaxial structure. This first generation device demonstrates a discrete single-mode tuning range of approximately 12 nm between 1551nm and 1563 nm with a side-mode suppression ratio ≥30 dB. Moreover, the integrated modulator section is shown to support transmission at 10 Gb/s using non-return to zero on-off keying with an extinction ratio in excess of 8 dB. Furthermore, using a time-resolved chirp measurement technique to examine dynamic deviations in the set carrier frequency, the modulator section exhibits a chirp contribution of <6 GHz using test patterns with high and low frequency content. In addition, the generation of optical bursts through the application of a gating function to the SOA section was found to shift the unmodulated carrier of a typical lasing mode by ≤8 GHz for gating periods comparable with a typical PON burst durations of 125 μs which are faster than the thermal response time of the transmitter material.
