Zn-based QDs were successfully synthesized via a microwave-assisted method in aqueous phase. Doping with Cu or Mn induced a red-shift in the excitonic peak, indicating the tuning of optical properties. Future work will assess the ROS generation capacity of these QDs for cancer treatment applications.

Microwave-assisted aqueous synthesis was chosen for the direct formation of QDs in a biocompatible medium.

Zinc chloride, manganese (II) chloride tetrahydrate, and copper (II) chloride dehydrate were used as precursors.

Precursors were mixed in a microwave digestion vessel, pH adjusted, and then subjected to microwave irradiation. The formed nanocrystals were precipitated, centrifuged, and resuspended in deionized water.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
UV-Vis, FT-IR, PL, HRTEM, ED, and EDX techniques were used for characterization.
