研究目的
To describe a photovoltaic retinal prosthesis system design that delivers both power and visual information directly to each pixel through pulsed near-infrared (NIR) illumination, eliminating the need for complex electronics and wiring schemes, and preserving the natural link between image perception and eye movement.
研究成果
The study demonstrates that NIR light-induced photovoltaic stimulation using a subretinal photodiode array elicits response in both healthy and degenerate rat retinas at irradiances substantially below ocular safety limits. The small implant size and lack of wires makes photovoltaic arrays easy to implant, even in eyes as small as those in rats.
研究不足
The study acknowledges that the proximity of the stimulating array to the target cells and the pathological rewiring of the degenerate retina could limit the resolution of visual perception.
