The objective of this paper is to develop a variable perturbation P&O MPPT and investigate its effect on the GCPVS. The prede?ned parameters like initial values, step size and sampling time greatly in?uence the performance of a MPPT. The variable perturbation generator must vary the perturbation size in a controlled manner and which may produce less oscillations around the MPP.

The paper presents an effective approach to mitigate oscillations in the dc-link voltage and flickering of injected grid current in a grid-connected PV system. The adaptive P&O MPPT, which includes a PI controller for tuning the step size, resolves the issues encountered with fixed step size P&O MPPT. The adaptive P&O MPPT has low influence upon the predefined initial step size and the perturbation interval can be easily adjusted by varying the sampling time of the discrete PI controller.
