研究目的
Investigating the thermal–electrical effect of meshed hybrid conductors on the optical emission efficiency of highly scaled GaN micro-LEDs.
研究成果
The study confirms the importance of thermal management and multi-physics analysis in designing ultra-small-pixel micro-LEDs with high energy efficiency. An optimized mesh density improves the light extraction efficiency, with a significant increase in emission efficiency achieved by balancing transmittance, conductivity, and heat transfer characteristics.
研究不足
The study focuses on GaN-based micro-LEDs with very small pixels (5 μm pixel, 10 μm pitch), which may limit the generalizability of the findings to larger pixel sizes or different materials. The trade-off among heat transfer, electrical conductivity, and light extraction efficiency may vary under different conditions.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study involves fabricating GaN-based micro-LED displays with very small pixels (5 μm pixel, 10 μm pitch) to study the thermal–electrical effect of meshed hybrid conductors. In situ thermographic imaging with I–V measurement is used to analyze the trade-off among heat transfer, electrical conductivity, and light extraction efficiency.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
GaN layers grown epitaxially on sapphire substrates are used to fabricate micro-LEDs with varying designs. The electrical and optical properties are measured using a source meter and a photodetector.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Equipment includes a source meter (KEITHLEY 2602), a photodetector (Hamamatsu, S2281-04), a semiconductor analyzer (KEITHLEY 4200), and a thermal–electric chamber prober (TPC-300, TNP Corporation). Materials include GaN layers, ITO layers, and metal meshes.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The fabrication process involves forming mesa patterns, depositing SiO2 layers, and forming metal meshes via photolithography and e-beam evaporation. Electrical and optical measurements are conducted to analyze the performance of different designs.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The study employs transmission line measurement (TLM) to extract the sheet resistance of the ITO and the contact resistance between the metal mesh and ITO. The electroluminescence spectra of micro-LEDs are measured with a spectrometer.
