研究目的
To study the properties of a magneto-optical trap (MOT) of CaF molecules, including the loading process from a decelerated buffer-gas-cooled beam, and to determine how various MOT properties depend on key parameters such as the intensity and detuning of the main cooling laser.
研究成果
The CaF MOT behaves similarly to a normal atomic MOT in many respects, with properties that conform to analytical results based on an effective two-level model. The study provides a thorough characterization of the MOT's properties and suggests that there is great scope for increasing the number of molecules loaded and for extending the cooling and trapping methods to other molecules.
研究不足
The lifetime of the MOT is relatively short (~100 ms), consistent with a leak out of the cooling cycle. The damping constant is smaller than predicted, and the temperature is higher than the Doppler temperature, especially at high intensity. The study also notes discrepancies between experimental results and simulations in some aspects.
