研究目的
To create the best mouthwash formulation with great physical characteristics and stability, and also proved as an anti-biofilm agent.
研究成果
Nanoemulsion propolis mouthwash is proven to have the higher effectiveness in inhibiting biofilm formation than curcumin mouthwash. It suggested nanoemulsion propolis can be developed as good oral hygiene mouthwash that can significantly reduce the number of oral bacteria and inhibit their proliferation.
研究不足
The study did not explore the long-term effects of the mouthwash on oral health beyond the in vitro conditions. The effectiveness of the mouthwash in vivo and its potential side effects were not investigated.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study used the combined method of homogenization, mixing and ultrasonication to formulate mouthwash from propolis and curcumin.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Crude propolis samples were collected from Apis mellifera, turmeric from Curcuma domestica Val.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Ethanol 96%, Tween-80, propylene glycol, sorbitol, distilled water, phosphate buffered saline (PBS), Brain Heart Infusion (BHI) broth and agar, Streptococcus mutans ATCC
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
251 Mouthwash was prepared by mixing with a magnetic stirrer at 30-40oC for 15 min, and ultra-sonication process in the following was operated in the 53 Hz sonicator for 10 min.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The physical characterization was done with organoleptic analysis texture, appearance, taste, odor, and homogeneity. The pH measurement was done with Eutech pH-meter. Particle size measurement was done with Particle Size Analyzer.
