研究目的
The aim of the study was to clinically evaluate the efficacy of photodynamic therapy in treatment of reticular oral lichen planus (OLP).
研究成果
The results suggest that photodynamic therapy may become an alternative method for treating the reticular form of OLP. The results confirmed that ALA-mediated photodynamic therapy using a 630 nm light is effective and can be considered as an optional treatment for symptomatic OLP.
研究不足
The study acknowledges the technical impediments related to the application of the photosensitizer to the mucosa and the maintenance of it on the surface as limitations. The variety of currently used PDT protocols and conflicting views on their efficacy make further studies compulsory to create an optimal therapeutic model.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study involved photodynamic therapy (PDT) mediated with topically applied 5% 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), activated by a custom-made diode lamp emitting light at 630 nm and 300 mW. A light exposure dose was 150 J/cm
2:The therapy comprised of 10 weekly illumination sessions. Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Fifty patients aged 26-84, with 124 OLP lesions in total, were included. The lesions were macroscopically measured in millimeters with a periodontal probe.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
A custom-designed diode lamp with a high-power LED (Seoul Semiconductor R11292,
4:5W) and an optical fiber probe (Dentsply, 10 mm diameter) were used. Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
ALA was applied directly onto the lesion and surrounding mucosa, protected with an occlusive dressing, and activated by light. The response was evaluated at each session, on completion, and throughout a 12-month follow-up.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical analysis was performed using Statistica 12.0 software, with the Wilcoxon matched-pairs signed-ranks test for comparing related variables.
