研究目的
To study straylight before and after posterior polar cataract removal to improve the evaluation of the need for cataract surgery in patients with posterior polar cataract.
研究成果
Straylight in eyes with posterior polar cataract patients can be extremely bothersome, while visual acuity is relatively well preserved. Surgery was effective in lowering straylight levels. For these patients, straylight measurements can help objectively measure the quality of vision complaints, and elevated straylight levels can be an indication for surgery independent of visual acuity.
研究不足
The study included a small sample size of 8 eyes from 4 patients, which may limit the generalizability of the findings. The study did not explore the effect of pupil size on straylight levels in relation to the characteristics of polar cataracts.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
Prospective case series design was used to study straylight before and after posterior polar cataract removal. The compensation comparison method was employed to measure intraocular straylight using a straylight meter (C-Quant).
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Patients diagnosed with posterior polar cataract who agreed to cataract surgery were included. None of the patients had relevant ocular disease other than cataract.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Straylight meter (C-Quant, Oculus Optikger€ate GmbH), Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study chart for visual acuity measurements.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Visual acuity and straylight measurements were performed preoperatively and at least 2 weeks postoperatively. Cataract surgery was performed by an attending ophthalmologist specialized in anterior segment disease.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical analysis was performed using the paired t test for normally distributed variables (straylight) and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for non-normally distributed variables (visual acuity). Normality was tested with the Shapiro-Wilk test.
