The addition of carboxylic acid sodium salts into PCDTBT-PCBM blend effectively optimizes the morphology of the active layer, decreases the phase domain size, increases the optical absorption intensity, improves the hole mobility, balances the hole and electron mobility, and finally increases the PCE of PSC. The modulation ability varies with the structure of the cyclic carboxylate, with HPN-68L showing the best performance.
