研究目的
To assess the resistive index (RI) of ophthalmic artery (OA) and central retinal artery (CRA) as a bioimaging biomarker for the severity of diabetic retinopathy, for the first time.
研究成果
Resistive index of OA is a bio imaging biomarker for the severity of DR. RI of OA was found to be a significant independent predictor of severity of DR.
研究不足
The study excluded history of other ocular or systemic diseases affecting the retinal vascular pathology, history of any previous intravitreal injection(s), history of ophthalmic surgical or laser intervention, history of taking vitamin supplements, antioxidants, any medications causing change in blood flow, and signal strength of less than 5 on OCT due to media haze.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A tertiary care center based cross sectional study was conducted. RI in OA and CRA was studied using color Doppler and gray scale sonography. CST, CAT, retinal photoreceptor EZ disruption, and RNFL thickness were studied using SD-OCT.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
69 consecutive cases of type 2 diabetes mellitus between the ages of 40 and 70 years were included after informed consent. Healthy control subjects of similar age were included (n=22).
3:2). List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
3. List of Experimental Equipment and Materials: Color Doppler and gray scale sonography imaging (Philips Affiniti 70G Ultrasound System), spectral domain optical coherence tomography (Cirrus High Definition OCT; Carl Zeiss MeditecInc).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Blood flow within the CRA and OA was measured using color doppler and gray scale sonography imaging. Vascular resistance against blood flow was calculated employing the formula: RI= (PSV-EDV)/PSV.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Data were expressed as mean ± standard error of the mean (SE). Groups were compared by one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). Pearson correlation analysis was done to assess association between the study variables.
