  • Microstructure and properties of WC reinforced Ni-based composite coatings with Y <sub/>2</sub> O <sub/>3</sub> addition on titanium alloy by laser cladding

    摘要: In this study, WC reinforced Ni-based composite coatings with Y2O3 addition were deposited on Ti-6Al-4V titanium substrate by laser cladding. The phases, microstructure, microhardness and wear resistance of the composite coatings were studied by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, microhardness tester and wear tester. The results showed that good metallurgical bonding was achieved between the composite coatings and substrate. The phases mainly were γ -Ni, TiC, TiB2, Ni3B, M23C6 and WC. Most of the WC was dissolved in small pieces of WC during the laser cladding process. The microhardness of the composite coatings was about 3 times that of the titanium substrate and the wear resistance of the composite coatings had a significant increase.

  • High-power, high-spectral-purity GaSb-based laterally coupled distributed feedback lasers with metal gratings emitting at 2? <i> <b>μ</b> </i> m

    摘要: We report on the fabrication of high-power, high-spectral-purity GaSb-based laterally coupled distributed feedback (LC-DFB) lasers emitting at 2 μm. Second-order Chromium-Bragg-gratings are fabricated alongside the ridge waveguide by lift off. Due to the introduction of gain coupling, the lasers exhibit a stable single mode operation [side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) >40 dB] from 10 °C to 50 °C and the maximum SMSR is as high as 53 dB. At a heat-sink temperature of 10 °C, the lasers emit more than 40 mW continuous-wave in a single longitudinal mode. A high external quantum efficiency of 48% is obtained, resulting in a notable increase in power conversion efficiency peaking at 13%. The lasers achieve a comparable output power with that of the index-coupled LC-DFB lasers, while maintaining a better single mode performance. Thus, we prove the feasibility of the metal-grating LC-DFB structure to achieve high-power, frequency-stable semiconductor lasers through a simpler and much more convenient way.

  • Sub-milliampere-threshold continuous wave operation of GaN-based vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser with lateral optical confinement by curved mirror

    摘要: The continuous wave operation of a gallium-nitride-based vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (GaN-based VCSEL) that uses boron ion implantation for lateral current confinement and a curved mirror for lateral optical confinement was investigated. The threshold current was 0.25 mA (Jth = 3.5 kA cm?2) for a 3 μm diameter current aperture at room temperature and the lasing wavelength was 445.3 nm. This is the lowest threshold current recorded for a GaN-based VCSEL. This result is considered to be a milestone for the further miniaturization of GaN-based VCSELs by the implementation of lateral optical confinement due to the incorporation of a curved mirror.

  • A portable and universal upconversion nanoparticle-based lateral flow assay platform for point-of-care testing

    摘要: Upconversion nanoparticle-based lateral flow assays (UCNP-LFAs) have attracted significant attention in point-of-care testing (POCT) applications, due to the long-term photostability and enhanced signal-to-background noise ratio. The existing UCNP-LFAs generally require peripheral equipment for exciting fluorescent signals and reading out fluorescence results, which are generally bulky and expensive. Herein, we developed a miniaturized and portable UCNP-LFA platform, which is composed of a LFA detection system, an UCNP-LFA reader and a smartphone-assisted UCNP-LFA analyzer. The LFA detection system is based on three types of UCNPs for multiplexed detection. The reader has a dimension of 24.0 cm×9.4 cm×5.4 cm (L×W×H) and weight of 0.9 kg. The analyzer based on the custom-designed software of a smartphone (termed as UCNP-LFA analyzer) can get the quantitative analysis results in a real-time manner. We demonstrated the universality of this platform by highly sensitive and quantitative detections of several kinds of targets, including small molecule (ochratoxin A, OTA), heavy metal ion (Hg2+), bacteria (salmonella, SE), nucleic acid (hepatitis B virus, HBV) and protein (growth stimulation expressed gene 2, ST-2). Our developed UCNP-LFA platform holds great promise for applications in disease diagnostics, environmental pollution monitoring and food safety at the point of care.

  • Genetically encoded fluorescent indicators for imaging intracellular potassium ion concentration

    摘要: Potassium ion (K+) homeostasis and dynamics play critical roles in biological activities. Here we describe three genetically encoded K+ indicators. KIRIN1 (potassium (K) ion ratiometric indicator) and KIRIN1-GR are F?rster resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based indicators with a bacterial K+ binding protein (Kbp) inserting between the fluorescent protein FRET pairs mCerulean3/cp173Venus and Clover/mRuby2, respectively. GINKO1 (green indicator of K+ imaging) is a single fluorescent protein-based K+ indicator constructed by insertion of Kbp into enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP). These indicators are suitable for detecting K+ at physiologically relevant concentrations in vitro and in cells. KIRIN1 enabled imaging of cytosolic K+ depletion in live cells and K+ efflux and reuptake in cultured neurons. GINKO1, in conjunction with red fluorescent Ca2+ indicator, enable dual-color imaging of K+ and Ca2+ dynamics in neurons and glial cells. These results demonstrate that KIRIN1 and GINKO1 are useful tools for imaging intracellular K+ dynamics.

  • Stable Sn/Pb-Based Perovskite Solar Cells with a Coherent 2D/3D Interface

    摘要: Low-band-gap metal halide perovskite semiconductor based on mixed Sn/Pb is a key component to realize high-ef?ciency tandem perovskite solar cells. However, the mixed perovskites are unstable in air due to the oxidation of Sn2+. To overcome the stability problem, we introduced N-(3-aminopropyl)-2-pyrrolidinone into the CH3NH3Sn0.5Pb0.5IxCl3-x thin ?lm. The carbonyl group on the molecule interacts with Sn2+/Pb2+ by Lewis acid coordination, forming vertically oriented 2D layered perovskite. The 2D phase is seamlessly connected to the bulk perovskite crystal, with a lattice coherently extending across the two phases. Based on this 2D/3D hybrid structure, we assembled low-band-gap Sn-based perovskite solar cells with power conversion ef?ciency greater than 12%. The best device was among the most stable Sn-based organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite solar cells to date, keeping 90% of its initial performance at ambient condition without encapsulation, and more than 70% under continuous illumination in an N2-?lled glovebox for over 1 month.

  • A supramolecular Cd( <scp>ii</scp> )-metallogel: an efficient semiconductive electronic device

    摘要: A sonication-based strategy for the synthesis of a functional supramolecular Cd(II)-metallogel (CdA-OX) has been achieved through mixing cadmium(II) acetate dihydrate and oxalic acid dihydrate, a low molecular weight gelator (LMWG), in N,N-dimethyl formamide solvent at room temperature under atmospheric pressure. The mechanical properties of the supramolecular Cd(II)-metallogel were investigated through a rheological study. The pebble-like self-assembly hierarchical architecture of the supramolecular metallohydrogel was visualized through field emission scanning electron microscopy investigations. The electrical properties of the metallogel were thoroughly examined and indicate its semiconducting nature. Based on its conducting properties, the Cd(II)-metallogel was successfully applied to a Schottky barrier diode. Overall, this work is a novel instance of technologically challenging electronic device application of a Cd(II)-metallogel.

  • A Fluorescent Supramolecular Biosensor for Bacterial Detection via Binding-Induced Changes in Coiled-Coil Molecular Assembly

    摘要: The essential elements required for any sensors are a receptor, a signal converter, and a detector. Here, we report the construction of bacterial biosensors in which all of the required biosensor elements are furnished in one supramolecular assembly. The supramolecular biosensor is based on a double-layered octa-helical coiled-coil peptide assembly that contains tetravalent bioreceptors on the outer surface and environment-sensitive fluorophores in the core. The signal conversion takes advantage of the noncovalent and reversible nature of the self-assembled system, i.e., the multivalent binding of bacteria induces conformational changes in the supramolecular state, which is translated into differential fluorescence emissions. We show that fluorescent supramolecular biosensors (fSBs) can selectively detect E. coli over other bacteria. Because the fSBs were resistant to heat-induced denaturation, they retained their bacterial-sensing capability even at an elevated temperature (50 ℃). Biosensors based on responsive supramolecular assemblies can be further developed to detect various large and flat biological objects and biomacromolecules.

  • BaHgGeSe4 and SrHgGeSe4: Two New Hg-based Infrared Nonlinear Optical Materials

    摘要: New practically usable IR nonlinear optical (NLO) crystals, especially those suitable for high-efficient pumping of the commercial 1 μm laser, are in urgent demand. However, only a few new IR NLO materials have been grown into bulk crystals and realized IR laser output during the past twenty years due to the extreme difficulty in achieving the coexistence of various strongly-correlated properties. In the manuscript, based on the bonding characteristics of the Hg element and an efficient screening strategy for high-performance new crystals, we identified two new Hg-based IR nonlinear (NLO) materials, BaHgGeSe4 and SrHgGeSe4. They crystallize in the polar space group Ama2 with the distorted HgSe4 and GeSe4 tetrahedra aligned parallelly. They exhibit exceptional balance among all the preferred properties for practical applications, especially for high-efficient pumping of the commercial 1 μm laser: Their large band gap (~2.5 eV) can avoid the two-photon absorption of 1 μm laser and increase the laser damage threshold; They are phase matchable with very strong NLO response (5×AgGaS2); They can cover both the 3-5 μm and 8-12 μm atmospheric windows. Moreover, they melt congruently, which indicate that bulk crystals can be obtained by the Bridgman method. Their overall properties outperform the traditional materials AgGaQ2 (Q = S, Se) in a large degree. Detailed structural analysis and calculations elucidate the crucial role of cations in regulating the packing of the anionic groups and that of the highly-polarizable HgSe4 in balancing optical properties.
