  • An FPGA-Oriented Algorithm for Real-Time Filtering of Poisson Noise in Video Streams, with Application to X-Ray Fluoroscopy

    摘要: In this paper we propose a new algorithm for real-time ?ltering of video sequences corrupted by Poisson noise. The algorithm provides effective denoising (in some cases overcoming the ?ltering performances of state-of-the-art techniques), is ideally suited for hardware implementation, and can be implemented on a small ?eld-programmable gate array using limited hardware resources. The paper describes the proposed algorithm, using X-ray ?uoroscopy as a case study. We use IIR ?lters for time ?ltering, which largely simpli?es hardware cost with respect to previous FIR ?lter-based implementations. A conditional reset is implemented in the IIR ?lter, to minimize motion blur, with the help of an adaptive thresholding approach. Spatial ?ltering performs a conditional mean to further reduce noise and to remove isolated noisy pixels. IIR ?lter hardware implementation is optimized by using a novel technique, based on Steiglitz–McBride iterative method, to calculate ?xed-point ?lter coef?cients with minimal number of nonzero elements. Implementation results using the smallest StratixIV FPGA show that the system uses only, at most, the 22% of the resources of the device, while performing real-time ?ltering of 1024 × 1024@49fps video stream. For comparison, a previous FIR ?lter-based implementation, on the same FPGA, in the same conditions and constraints (1024 × 1024@49fps), requires the 80% of the logic resources of the FPGA.

  • Spectrophotometric determination of nitrate in hypersaline waters after optimization based on the Box-Behnken design

    摘要: Monitoring dissolved nitrate (NO3?) concentrations is essential for conservation efforts in aquatic ecosystems. Spectrophotometric methods are a widely accepted approach for NO3? analysis. They detect NO3? as a colored diazo complex after reduction to nitrite (NO2?) and its consequent reaction with the so-called Griess reagent. This method is commonly used for freshwater and saline water samples, even though it requires applying a heavy metal in powder form (cadmium) or high concentrations of heavy metal salts (vanadium-III), as a reductant. There has been little discussion about applying these methods for hypersaline samples. This study optimizes an existing method for use in high saline conditions based on the Griess reaction. Five factors were studied: incubation temperature, reaction time, concentration of EDTA, concentration of trisodium citrate, and concentration of reductant (VCl3). Optimal conditions were obtained by using the Box-Behnken design and included using VCl3 17.5 mM, trisodium citrate 70 mM, and an incubation temperature of 60 °C for 40 min. These conditions provided a linear range from 0.55 μM to 50 μM NO3?. The method showed a moderate precision (ranging from 4.3% to 15.4%). The proposed protocol was tested with hypersaline natural samples and showed recovery rates between 92.6% and 100.1%. This protocol for NO3? determination is the first specifically described for hypersaline samples.

  • Design of a novel dual-axis micro manipulator with an asymmetric compliant structure

    摘要: This paper presents a novel piezoelectrically actuated dual-axis micro manipulator with an asymmetric compliant structure. The mechanical design of the micro manipulator is first presented. A novel guiding bridge (GB)-type mechanism was proposed and utilized in the left part of the micro manipulator to improve the dynamic performance of the micro manipulator. The analytical model has been established based on pseudo-rigid-body (PRB) model and matrix-based compliance modeling (MCM) method. The kinematic and the precision of the micro manipulator have been analyzed, and the input and output couplings have been investigated. The prototype of the micro manipulator has been fabricated by wire electro discharge machining (WEDM). Then, open-loop experimental tests have been performed. The experimental results match well with the analytical calculation, and the amplification ratios are 11.12 and 4.64 for left part and right part, respectively. Proportional-integral (PI) controller has been used to regulate the output displacement and grasping force, and a series of closed-loop experiments have been conducted to investigate the performance of the micro manipulator. The results show that the position resolution for both the right and left parts is 0.15 μm, and the force resolution is 4 mN.

A simulation model is developed to analyze the charging process, energy efficiency, and grid interaction. Results show that the system can effectively charge multiple EVs with minimal grid dependency, promoting sustainable transportation. The design includes calculations for voltage, current, and power ratings, validated through simulation comparisons.

  • Uncertainty Analysis and Experimental Design in the Monte Carlo Ray-Trace Environment

    摘要: Despite the dominant role of the Monte Carlo ray-trace (MCRT) method in modern radiation heat transfer analysis, the contemporary literature remains surprisingly reticent on the uncertainty of results obtained using it. After first identifying the radiation distribution factor as a population proportion, standard statistical procedures are used to estimate its mean uncertainty, to a stated level of confidence, as a function of the number of surface elements making up the enclosure and the number of rays traced per surface element. This a priori statistical uncertainty is then shown to compare favorably with the observed variability in the distribution factors obtained in an actual MCRT-based analysis. Finally, a formal approach is demonstrated for estimating, to a prescribed level of confidence, the uncertainty in predicted heat transfer. This approach provides a basis for determining the minimum number of rays per surface element required to obtain the desired accuracy.

    摘要: With rumors of painted by the Emperor Zhao Ji, who subjugated his nation of Song, as a portrait of himself and his corrupted courtiers Cai Jing and Tong Guan. The work of art has been highly valued not only for being a masterpiece of the painter’s unique portrait painting but also for its superb skills in composition, ingenuity, shaping, depicting and tinting. With a portrait aspect ratio so tall and thin of 1:3, the painter arranged all the figure and surroundings in the bottom half and the figures themselves bottom quarter only. The composition leaves out the space for sky and ground as the skill in later ages named "blank leaving", results in an ethereal and detached individual space, the orientation of still objects and figures wraps up the space towards inside while the pine tree reaching high up to the sky extended the dimension in altitude. Thus, the consideration of space makes it suitable for being a reference of recreation in virtual reality. The Tunable laid its foundation on prior research in the background and content of the painting and then step further in textual research of objects while bringing back the core elements hidden behind the image, the music. The painter and emperor compressed the feeling of music and motion into a still image, yet we are trying to bring it back to life.

  • In-band Full-Duplex Relay-Assisted Millimeter-Wave System Design

    摘要: Millimeter-wave (mmWave) communication is a promising technology for future wireless systems due to the availability of huge unlicensed bandwidth. However, the need for large number of radio frequency (RF) chains associated with the antenna array and the corresponding increase in hardware complexity and power consumption are major stumbling blocks to its implementability. In this paper, we propose a low-complexity in-band full-duplex relay-assisted mmWave communication system design. We obtain the proposed multiple-input multiple-output analog–digital hybrid transceivers and relay filters by minimizing the overall sum-mean-square-error while mitigating the effect of residual loopback self-interference (LSI) in the system. The number of RF chains required in the proposed design is less than the number of antennas. We first present a design assuming the availability of perfect channel state information (CSI) at all the nodes. Later, we extend it to a robust design assuming a more realistic scenario, where the available CSI is imperfect. Furthermore, the LSI channel knowledge is assumed to be imperfect for both the designs rendering them robust to errors in loopback CSI. We employ sparse approximation technique to reduce the hardware complexity in the proposed system designs. The proposed algorithms are shown to converge to a limit even though the global convergence is hard to prove since the overall problem is non-convex. The hardware complexity-performance tradeoff of the proposed design is analyzed. Furthermore, the resilience of the robust design in the presence of CSI errors and the performance of both the proposed designs over various parameters are illustrated via numerical simulations.

  • Apply DFT Integrated Enhanced EBAC Methodology on Defect Isolations

    摘要: Design for test (DFT) has been widely applied to digital circuit failure analysis (FA) in semiconductor industries. The FA methods based on DFT involve layer-by-layer checks using a polisher and an SEM for defect identification and localization. Yet these methods have limitations with high risks of sample damages. Besides, they are highly dependent on the technical proficiencies of operators and, thus, they are not effective for precise defect isolations. This problem has been aggravated, especially at advanced nodes. The nano-probing electron beam absorbed current (EBAC) has significant advantages on precisely locating defects. This technique is to directly identify specific defects without layer-by-layer checks. Therefore, it can minimize sample damages during sample pretreatment. EBAC is an efficient technique to isolate the defects when the circuit is at the floating condition. Because the ground lines exist almost everywhere in a chip and they are for, e.g., electronic static discharge charge releases or connecting with sources for pickup, EBAC becomes a natural option for us. However, due to poor EBAC images, EBAC’s applications are restricted when the circuits under test have grounding paths. In this paper, we propose two enhanced EBAC analysis methods, based on the DFT and EBAC integrated system, for the defect isolations with grounded connections. It is the first time the DFT and EBAC integrated system is reported, and we successfully demonstrated EBAC applicability by real FA cases.
