  • Near-Infrared-Laser-Driven Robust Glass-Ceramic-Based Upconverted Solid-State-Lighting

    摘要: Laser lighting, generally consisting of blue laser and downconversion phosphors, is considered to be the next promising illumination to replace traditional LED lighting. However, the irradiation of high-power blue laser will inevitably cause significant thermal attack, which puts forward high demand on phosphor converters as well as device architecture. In this work, a proof-of-concept prototype of near-infrared laser-driven upconversion solid-state-lighting is proposed. Robust lanthanide doped α/β-NaYF4 embedded glass ceramics are developed as upconverted color converters and routine 980 nm laser is used as pumping source for its relatively low thermal effect and a perfect resonance with Yb3+ sensitizers. Stable and bright upconversion white light is indeed produced by coupling Yb/Tm/Er doped α-NaYF4 glass ceramic with 980 nm laser but the luminous efficiency and energy efficiency are only 0.3 lm/W and 0.12%, respectively, owing to low Er doping concentration. As an alternative, a stacking structure of Yb/Tm doped glass ceramics and Yb/Er doped one is designed as color converter to improve luminous efficiency up to 1.0 lm/W and energy efficiency of 0.5% under a laser power density of 275 W/cm2. It is believed that this research will provide a new idea for laser lighting and open the application field of glass ceramics.

  • Effect of K2O addition on glass structure, complex impedance and energy storage density of NaNbO3 based glass-ceramics

    摘要: (40-x)Na2O-xK2O-40Nb2O5-20SiO2 (x=0, 5, 10, 15mol%) glass-ceramics are synthesized by traditional melts method. The glass-ceramics are tested by X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques, and NaNbO3 as major phase led a high permittivity. A microstructure with nanoscale grains enclosed by glass phase is observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM). With the increase of content of K2O, a relaxed glass network structure is obtained, and more kinds of phase are formed. Permittivity comes to 174 approximately when x=5mol%. In addition, the activation energy (Ea) of residual glass phase for Na2O-K2O-Nb2O5-SiO2 glass-ceramics firstly increase then decrease. Breakdown strength (BDS) of all samples increase and then decrease with the increase of content of K2O, and maximum BDS is obtained when x=10mol%. And maximum theoretical energy density is 1.43J/cm3 when x=5mol%.

  • Phosphotellurite glass and glass-ceramics with high TeO <sub/>2</sub> content: thermal, structural and optical properties

    摘要: Phosphotellurite based glasses have interesting features such as low characteristic temperatures, large glass forming ability, high thermal stability against crystallization and broad transparency window from ultraviolet (UV) to near-infrared (NIR), which makes them promising materials for photonic applications. In this work, phosphotellurite binary glasses, having composition (100 – x) TeO2–x Ba(PO3)2 with x varying from 1 to 20 mol %, were synthesized by the conventional melt-quenching method in covered gold crucibles under air. Optical, physical and structural properties of the new glass samples were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, X-rays diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy, linear optical absorption from UV to NIR, IR transmittance, and optical limiting experiments. Transparent glass-ceramics in the visible range were obtained for phosphotellurite samples containing 2, 4 and 6 mol % of Ba(PO3)2 and the phase crystallization was investigated through Rietveld analysis and transmission electron microscopy. The incorporation of Ba(PO3)2 into the TeO2 network drastically increases the thermal stability against devitrification and helps to shift the infrared multiphonon absorption edge to longer wavelengths. Nonlinear measurements performed with a picosecond laser at 532 nm indicate large effective nonlinear absorption coefficients for all samples. In summary, the dependence of the spectroscopic properties on the samples’ compositions revealed a promising transparent glass and glass-ceramics for photonic applications.

  • Eu and Dy doped borophosphosilicate glass-ceramics for near ultraviolet based light-emitting diode applications

    摘要: The Eu and Dy doped borophosphosilicate glass-ceramics prepared using melt quenching technique are investigated for light-emitting diode applications. The X-ray diffraction results show that the precipitation of AlPO4 crystals in glass matrix occurred during the melt quenching process, leading to the formation of glass-ceramics. The content of AlPO4 crystals depends on the B2O3/P2O5 relative content in glass matrix composition. The spontaneous conversion of Eu3+ to Eu2+ takes place in the as-obtained glass-ceramics without using reducing atmosphere during the preparation process. The conversion extent of Eu3+ to Eu2+, optical properties and structure of the as-obtained materials are related to the B2O3/P2O5 relative content. The Eu/Dy co-doped borophosphosilicate glass-ceramics display the emission bands in the blue, yellow, and red light regions and their combinations generate near white light-emission. In addition, the tunable light emission can be realized by changing the concentration of Eu and B2O3/P2O5 relative content. The as-developed Eu and Dy doped borophosphosilicate glass-ceramics show promising prospects in light-emitting diode applications.

  • Characterization, optical and luminescence features of cobalt ions in multi-component PbO Al2O3TeO2GeO2SiO2 glass ceramics

    摘要: Glass ceramics of the composition PbOeAl2O3eTeO2eGeO2eSiO2 doped with CoO (ranging between 0 and 1.0 mol %) were prepared by melt quenching technique followed by heat treatment. The techniques such as XRD, SEM, EDS and DTA were employed for the characterization of the prepared samples. Conventional spectroscopic studies viz., optical absorption, photoluminescence, FTIR and Raman were also performed on these samples. The optical absorption spectra of the titled glass ceramics exhibited two principal absorption bands, one at about 594 nm and the second one consisting of multiplets with the meta centre at about 1455 nm ascribed to the 4A2 (4F) → 4T1 (4P) and 4A2 (4F) → 4T1 (4F) transitions of tetrahedrally coordinated Co2+ ions, respectively. Besides these, the spectra also exhibited two feeble bands at about 532 and 643 nm which are the characteristics of octahedrally coordinated Co2+ and Co3+ ions, respectively. Using Tanabe Sugano diagram the crystal field splitting parameter Dq, Racah parameters B, C and nephelauxetic ratio, β were evaluated for Co2+ ions. The photoluminescence spectra of the titled glass ceramics have exhibited two broad emission bands at 628 and 870 nm ascribed to 4T1 (4P) → 4A2 (4F) and 4T1 (4P) → 4T2 (4F) tetrahedral transitions of Co2+ ions, respectively. FTIR and Raman spectra of the titled samples exhibited various asymmetrical and symmetrical vibrational bands due to viz., silicate, germanate, PbO4, PbO6, AlO6, TeO4, TeO3 and CoIIIeO vibrations in the glass ceramic matrix. The spectroscopic investigations on the titled glass ceramics have revealed that if CoO is present in small quantities the cobalt ions predominantly occupy the octahedral sites in the glass network, whereas the tetrahedrally coordinated Co2+ ions are found to increase if the concentration of nucleating agent CoO is gradually increased up to 1.0 mol%. As a result the degree of depolymerization of the glass network decreases which in turn enhances its rigidity with increasing the concentration of nucleating agent CoO. From these investigations we report that the glass ceramics doped with 1.0 mol% of CoO are suitable for insulating devices as well as for photonic devices.

  • Structural and photoluminescence investigations of Cr3+ mixed Li2O—Bi2O3—ZrO2—SiO2 glass ceramics for optoelectronic device application

    摘要: Chromium oxide mixed Li2O―Bi2O3―ZrO2―SiO2 (Cr3+:LBZS) glasses were crystallized by heat treatment. Structural (X-ray di?raction, surface morphology, energy dispersion, DTA, FT-IR and Raman) and spectroscopic (optical absorption and luminescence), of these Cr3+:LBZS glass ceramics were studied. XRD pattern of Cr3+: LBZS glass ceramic samples exhibited distinct crystalline peaks. SEM images of the Cr3+: LBZS glass ceramic materials have revealed well identi?ed and distributed crystals of reformed size. The glass transition (Tg) and various crystallization temperatures (Tc1), (Tc2) and (Tc3) of these ceramics were identi?ed by DTA analysis. The shift in the wavenumbers of di?erent symmetrical and asymmetrical band positions of these glass ceramics were analysed by FT-IR and Raman studies. The optical bandgap (Eo), CFSE (Dq) and nephelauxetic ratio (β) were calculated. Photoluminescence properties were also investigated.

  • Synthesis of Eu2O3 doped BaO-TiO2-GeO2 based glass-ceramics: Crystallization kinetics, optical and electrical properties

    摘要: Eu3+ doped transparent glass-ceramics (GCs) containing non-centrosymmetric ferroelastic Ba2TiGe2O8 (BTG) crystals as the major crystalline phase have been synthesized. BTG crystal phase was generated in the glass matrix with mole percent composition 30BaO-15TiO2-55GeO2 synthesized by melt quenching technique followed by controlled crystallization through ceramming heat-treatment. A di?usion controlled surface crystallization event with zero and constant nucleation rates was determined through a comparative study of some linear and nonlinear solid state reaction models. Nonlinear crystallization kinetics studies facilitated determination of the experimental ceramization temperature and time for fabrication of transparent glass-ceramics containing BTG nanocrystals. XRD, FTIR, TEM and FESEM measurements con?rmed the dispersion of BTG nanocrystals of size 20–100 nm in the glass matrix. Local crystal environment around Eu3+ ions facilitated the enhancement of photoluminescence of glass-ceramics with respect to the precursor glass. High dielectric constant, low loss and dissipation factors were observed for the GCs.

  • Preparation and Characterization of Na<sub>2</sub>O-Y<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>-P<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub>-SiO<sub>2</sub> Transparent Glass Ceramics

    摘要: Transparent glass ceramics containing Na3.6Y1.8(PO4)3 crystals were successfully synthesized using high temperature melting quenching and subsequent heat treatment of the precursor glass with a composition 15Na2CO3-3Y2O3-45SiO2-31H3BO3- 5.4P2O5-0.6Sb2O3 (mol%). The impact of heat treatment is investigated in detail. The glass sample was tested by differential scanning calorimetry analysis to determine the heat treatment system. The ideal heat-treated condition is at 650°C for 2 h. The structure and morphology properties were systematically analyzed by recording X-ray diffraction patterns and scanning electron microscopy images, which indicate that Na3.6Y1.8(PO4)3 crystal were precipitated homogeneously among the glass matrix. The microstructural of precursor glass and glass ceramic were compared by analyzing FTIR spectra, indicating the formation of phosphate groups in glass ceramic. The refractive index of glass ceramics samples were measured. In the visible region, the transmittance of glass ceramics is up to 85%. Moreover, the relationship between the refractive index of the sample and the transmittance is discussed.

  • Enhanced near-infrared emission in Yb3+-Cr3+ codoped KZnF3 glass ceramics excited by a solar simulator

    摘要: Cr3+-Yb3+ codoped bulk glass-ceramics containing KZnF3 nanocrystals are fabricated by thermal treatment of cast glass samples and characterized by X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The luminescent properties of the glass and glass ceramic are investigated from the measured photoluminescence spectra and fluorescent lifetime. The measurement results demonstrate that Cr3+ and Yb3+ ions are both predominantly hosted in the KZnF3 nanocrystals, and the energy absorbed by Cr3+ ions is efficiently transferred to Yb3+ ions when excited at 450 nm. Compared to the glass, the near-infrared emission in the Cr3+-Yb3+ codoped glass ceramics is significantly enhanced when the excitation wavelength lies in the range λ~400–800 nm of a solar simulator. Results indicate that the Cr3+-Yb3+ codoped KZnF3 glass ceramic provides a promising material for spectral conversion from visible sunlight to near-infrared emission and a novel gain material for solar pumped fiber laser.

  • Quartz-containing glass-ceramics in the SiO <sub/>2</sub> -Li <sub/>2</sub> O-K <sub/>2</sub> O-MgO-CaO-Al <sub/>2</sub> O <sub/>3</sub> -P <sub/>2</sub> O <sub/>5</sub> system

    摘要: Volume crystallization of quartz, triggered by adding P2O5, was investigated in the multicomponent SiO2–Li2O–K2O–MgO–CaO–Al2O3–P2O5 glass system. Glass‐ceramics comprising quartz as the main crystal phase besides lithium disilicate (Li2Si2O5) as a minor crystal phase were produced by controlled crystallization from the parent glass. According to quantitative crystal phase analysis by means of Rietveld refinement the mass fraction of the minor Li2Si2O5 phase decreased with increasing P2O5 content, while the fraction of quartz increased. Scanning electron microscopy revealed lath‐like Li2Si2O5 embedded in a matrix of rather globular quartz crystals forming an interlocking microstructure. Well machinable glass‐ceramics with a mean biaxial flexural strength of about 300 MPa and a fracture toughness of about 2.0 MPa × m0.5 could be realized. With mean values ≥13.6 × 10?6 K?1 the glass‐ceramics coefficient of thermal expansion is close to the one reported for low‐quartz crystals. The ease of production based on conventional glass melting and fabrication technology together with the good mechanical, optical, and machining properties enables the application of these materials in prosthodontics.
