    摘要: When ZnO varistors are stressed by 4/10μs current impulses, mechanical cracking occasionally occurs. Based on finite element method, an electro-thermal-mechanical simulation of a ZnO varistor exposed to a 4/10μs current impulse is shown in the present paper focusing on temperature and thermal-induced mechanical stress distribution. The goal is to obtain a better understanding of the failure phenomenon under high current impulse with short duration. Conclusions of varistor design and manufacture are drawn after simulation analysis.

    摘要: The problem of determination of object position in a plane is solved by the analysis of ultrawideband electromagnetic wave reflected from the subsurface object. The model of ground containing perfectly conducting object inside is irradiated by short impulse wave with Gaussian time dependence. The direct problem is solved by FDTD method to receive a time dependence of reflected wave amplitude. To recognize the presence of the object and depths of its position the multilayer artificial neural networks (ANN) is used. The amplitudes of electric component of the reflected field in different time and special points above the ground surface are the input data for multilayer ANN of different structures. The work of the trained ANN is verified for arbitrary depths of object position.

    摘要: The parameters of the two-stage synchronization algorithm for the auto-compensation quantum key distribution (QKD) systems are investigated. The synchronization algorithm does not provide for splitting a frame equal to the period of the optical clock to the time windows. The equipment operates in the search mode for receiving a photon. The equipment goes into test mode when receiving a photon. The reception of a photon in the test mode is possible only during the action of the strobe pulse. The rest of the time the channel does not react to photons and dark current impulses (DCI). The algorithm provides for sequential testing of frames with a stop at registration of the first photon. The algorithm makes a decision about the absence of a signal after a specified number of tests. The proposed algorithm makes it possible to use single-photon avalanche photodiodes (APDs) with a significant time delay between the moments of photon reception and the restoration of APD. Formulas for calculating the time characteristics of the synchronization algorithm in the search and test modes are obtained. A time of synchronization is obtained. A method for calculating the design parameters of the two-stage single-photon synchronization for a QKD system is proposed.

    摘要: Lightning ground potential rise (GPR) was shown to be a significant contributor to equipment damage under certain conditions that include, in particular, high soil resistivity. In addition, IEEE Std 1692 suggested that surge protective devices (SPDs) may not protect adequately under conditions of lightning GPR. This paper follows on earlier work that addressed lightning GPR associated with large electrodes, loss of equipotential under conditions of GPR and a desk-top study on the behavior of a low voltage SPD under emulated lightning impulse conditions. The findings of a laboratory test on the behavior of an SPD under lightning current impulse conditions as well as in situ testing of an SPD under lightning current impulse are presented in this paper. The paper concludes by reflecting on initial findings from post-test monitoring under actual lightning, emphasizes the value of in situ testing and points out its limitations.

  • An Accurate Analysis of Phase Noise in CMOS Ring Oscillators

    摘要: We present an accurate analysis of phase noise in ring oscillators, where each stage in the ring is a CMOS inverter loaded by a capacitance. Closed-form phase noise expressions are obtained in both 1/f 2 and 1/f 3 offset frequency regions, displaying an excellent agreement with numerical simulations using either ideal Verilog-A MOS models (allowing theoretical predictions to be tested with exactly the same assumptions under which they were derived), or commercial BSIM4 MOS models.

    摘要: Detection of people hidden by obstacles using impulse radio ultra wideband radar has become a keen research nowadays. According to theories of the UWB radar, the lower center frequency is, the better penetrability radar has. And the larger bandwidth is, the higher radar range resolution becomes. In order to detect survivors trapped under the ruins of collapsed buildings, researches commonly focus on the radar with center frequency below 500 MHz. However, the radar with low center frequency always has small bandwidth, so it is relatively insensitive to the weak signal of the survivor. And this may lead to miss detection in search and rescue missions. Therefore, a novel dual-frequency IR-UWB radar system is developed in this paper. It can works alternately at each waveform with two center frequencies, which are 270 MHz and 400MHz. And the equivalent bandwidth of the system is relatively extended to enhance the sensitivity to weak vital signals. Moreover, cross-correlation technique is applied to the processed data of the two channels to improve the detected signal to noise ratio (SNR). The experimental results show that this system can both meet the need of low center frequency and large bandwidth in life detection and the detected SNR of the system is much higher than that of the single-frequency IR-UWB radar. So this system can work more reliably and effectively in the detection of people trapped under the ruins.

  • Optical observation of streamer propagation and breakdown in seed based insulating oil under impulse voltages

    摘要: Increasing demand of electricity and high consumption of natural fuel resources has raised countless challenges for the electricity industry. For years, transformers were equipped with mineral oil for better and lasting performance but the recent uncertainty about the future of oil availability is motivating the researchers to find out the “Green Insulating Oils” for transformers. Thus, green insulating oils are being probed with great interest at research centers worldwide. In this paper, Canola oil was studied for applications in transformers as a sustainable solution. It presents experimental results of a comparative study of initiation and propagation of streamers in canola seed based oil and mineral insulating oil when subjected under standard lightning impulse voltages. Moreover, streamer patterns, modes of propagation and their stopping lengths were investigated under both polarities of voltage in point-plane electrode gap. The paper concludes with six different findings, which states that canola oil is a better and sustainable choice of oil for transformer use.

    摘要: The impulse properties of AlxGa1-xAs (at x = 0.225) are investigated by research of the "overshoot" effect of the charge carriers drift velocity. The effect of the rectangular electric field pulse parameters on the temporal and spatial distribution of the drift velocity is carried out by the numerical experiment. The impulse properties of Al0.225Ga0.775As and gallium arsenide are compared.

  • A 56-Gb/s PAM4 Receiver With Low-Overhead Techniques for Threshold and Edge-Based DFE FIR- and IIR-Tap Adaptation in 65-nm CMOS

    摘要: This paper presents a four-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM4) quarter-rate receiver that efficiently compensates for moderate channel loss in a robust manner through background adaptation of the receiver thresholds and equalization taps. The front-end utilizes an input single-stage continuous-time linear equalizer (CTLE) to boost the main cursor and relax the pre-cursor cancellation requirement, requiring only a 2-tap pre-cursor feed-forward equalizer (FFE) on the transmitter side. A 2-tap decision feedback equalizer (DFE) follows that includes one finite impulse response (FIR) tap and one infinite impulse response (IIR) tap to cancel first post-cursor and long-tail inter-symbol interference (ISI), respectively. In addition to the per-slice main three data samplers, a single error sampler is utilized for background threshold control and an edge-based sampler performs both phase-locked loop (PLL)-based clock and data recovery (CDR) phase detection and generates information for background DFE tap adaptation. Fabricated in general purpose (GP) 65-nm CMOS, the 56-Gb/s receiver achieves 4.63 mW/Gb/s and compensates for up to 20.8-dB loss at a bit error rate (BER) < 10?12 when operated with a 2-tap FFE transmitter.

    摘要: This paper presents a novel radio transceiver based on a 2-bit pulse-position modulation (PPM) system for E-band wireless communication systems. We propose a time-based modulation architecture for a wireless transceiver. This is a promising architecture for deep-submicron and nanoscale CMOS technology. The performance of the wireless transceiver can be enhanced as the speed of the CMOS circuit increases. The transmitter is composed of four circuit blocks: a pulse-position modulator, impulse generator, millimeter-wave bandpass filter, and power amplifier. The receiver is comprised of a conventional quadrature demodulator. The transmitter and receiver chipset is fabricated in 55-nm standard CMOS technology. In transceiver loop-back tests, a data rate of 7.0 Gb/s with repetition data and 4.6 Gb/s with pseudo-random bit sequence (PRBS) data are demonstrated.
