The all-fiber EDF laser demonstrated can switch between three spatial modes and tune multi-wavelength outputs, showing promising applications in WDM optical communication systems, optical fiber sensor systems, and optical instruments. The mode MUX/DEMUX efficiently excites higher-order modes, and the Sagnac interferometer enables multi-wavelength lasing.

The stability of the laser output decreases with higher-order modes and increasing lasing wavelength numbers. The slope efficiencies are lower for higher-order modes and with more lasing wavelengths.
