研究目的
Investigate the efficacy of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) combined with fluoride varnish for the desensitisation of hypomineralised teeth in children.
研究成果
The combination of therapies (L+FV) had a similar effect to the use of fluoride varnish alone at the end of treatment. However, LLLT promoted an immediate effect, whereas fluoride varnish had a late-onset effect. Besides the analgesic action of the two therapies, the present findings suggest that the anti-inflammatory effect of LLLT contributed to the reduction in the sensitivity of teeth affected by molar-incisor hypomineralisation.
研究不足
The study had a smaller number of teeth treated in the L + FV group due to the dropout of two patients. The response from children six to seven years of age may be limited when addressing self-reported sensitivity.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A randomised clinical trial was conducted with 66 children, randomly allocated to the treatments: laser (L); fluoride varnish (FV); and laser + fluoride varnish (L+FV).
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Children between six and 12 years of age with at least one permanent first molar erupted and hypomineralisation with sensitivity in permanent molars and/or incisors were selected.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Low-level laser diode [infrared (wavelength: 808 nm)] with an output power of 100 mW (Twin Flex Evolution, MM Optics, S?o Carlos, SP, Brazil) and fluoride varnish (Duraphat?, 22,600 ppm F, Colgate, Wirrigen, Germany).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The L group underwent two sessions of LLLT. The FV group received four applications of varnish at one-week intervals. The L+FV group underwent two sessions of LLLT and four applications of varnish. Tooth sensitivity was evaluated prior to each session and one month after the onset of treatment.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The Friedman test was used for multiple comparisons and the Wilcoxon test for paired comparisons. The Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were used for the inter-group comparisons.
