研究目的
To characterize and compare choroidal neovascularization (CNV) secondary to white dot syndromes (WDS) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A).
研究成果
CNV networks secondary to WDS are smaller than those secondary to AMD but have similar vessel density. OCT-A is effective for morphological analysis, but larger studies are needed for further characterization and understanding of CNV pathogenesis in inflammatory conditions.
研究不足
Small number of patients limits definitive conclusions; potential differences in disease duration and treatment history between groups; technical limitations of OCT-A such as segmentation inaccuracies and signal attenuation from subretinal fluid or hemorrhage.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
Cross-sectional study design using OCT-A imaging to compare CNV characteristics between WDS and AMD patients.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Patients with CNV secondary to WDS (including multifocal choroiditis and panuveitis, birdshot chorioretinopathy, presumed ocular histoplasmosis syndrome, persistent placoid maculopathy) and AMD were selected from an institutional database, excluding those with infectious posterior uveitis, idiopathic posterior uveitis, or fewer than 6-month follow-up.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Zeiss Angioplex OCT-A (Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany), Optovue AngioVue OCT-A (Optovue, Fremont, CA, USA), ImageJ software (NIH, Bethesda, MD, USA), Stata software (StataCorp LP, College Station, TX, USA).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Patients were imaged with OCT-A using a 3x3 mm protocol. Manual adjustment of segmentation lines was performed if automatic segmentation was inaccurate. CNV area and vessel density were measured in ImageJ by three independent graders, with adjudication by a fourth if needed. Statistical analysis included linear regression and t-tests.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Interclass correlation coefficient for grader agreement, linear regression models for CNV area and vessel density, and paired t-tests for changes with anti-VEGF therapy.
